i think you bitches are confusing mean spirited with funny. maybe it's a british social s/m thing.

on the other hand you have awesome shit like black adder, black books (the first 2 series, not the 3rd), mr bean, and fawlty towers, which my wife has by now memorized line by line. oh and the original office-- that was great too-- and i liked extras.

Peep show is not meanspirited at all, and I'm not British.

What? The argument isn't about who is SUCCESSFUL, it is who is comedically relevant. Any random ass guy can come up with some interesting humor, that doesn't mean he constantly plays to packed houses. Same thing about a band -- I wouldn't say "oh, you haven't sold 10 million copies"; I'd say, "What song have you written as good as 'Super Go'?"

Wait, so you think you're the judge of what is "good" or not?

Wait, so people who are very funny but don't have the means to promote themselves are less funny than people who are unfunny but heavily promoted because their less relevant?

Wait, so you're saying Dane Cook was the funniest guy on the planet a few years ago?

And what you're basically saying is that anyone who hasn't achieved the same success as another person or group has no right to form an opinion on them. That's fucking RETARDED. And wait, so you think you've written a song as good as "Super Go," which is what gives you the right to decide how good it is and how good or bad other music is? Do other people? Maybe you should stop forming opinions and sharing them online until we can reach a consensus and see if that's true.

Which of your songs would you like to submit for consideration? I'll start forming the panel of judges.

I think the deal with the characters in Peep Show that while they lack almost any redeeming qualities they have such numerous bad qualities that we can see our own worse behaviour reflected in them, and then we laugh at ourselves. But I can understand this kind of humour may go right over the heads of the pompous, egomaniacal, or unself-aware.

interesting theory

Green_mind 05.20.2010 03:32 PM

yeah Pasquale is terrible. I kind of like Skinner, his current show is alright, he's not brilliant tho. I found his autobiog fairly funny, in a butt-clenchingly honest kind of way..

Yeah, I laughed too. Nothing wrong with laughing at myself. It could be worse. At least I'm doing a few things right. I'm young and still dumb on quite a few things -- that's life. I'm realistic, at least, and successful, and have more common sense than anyone I know. That counts for something. But I've still got a long way to go.

You just described the average forumtard. If we all take offence from what someone who doesn't know you post on here imagine what it'd be like if they had the balls to tell you that in person.
Take floatingslowly, for instance (does he still post?). Nice guy and all that but if I was forced to listen to his robin williams-like humour all day I'd probably lock myself inside a closet and stay there for eternity.

atsonicpark 05.20.2010 05:14 PM

Isn't floatingslowly the user known as "space"?

Genteel Death 05.20.2010 05:20 PM

Is he?

They certainly have a similar posting style.

Hmm..

I saw Neil Hamburger's show in a club a few months ago. It was a good time...people chanting, "Neil! Neil!" and others heckling him. It's mostly rather mean-spirited jokes about celebrities. It's perhaps horrible to admit, but the ones about the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Heath Ledger had me laughing the hardest.

but it's a one-trick pony. Yes it's hilarious on the first person and for me it ends right there but he will carry it on an on and on so that it's annoying now not a joke. That's what bother me about Tom Green he doesn't know when the joke is over.

Funny, I think the opposite. Gervais is just insufferable. He's a brilliant writer, but astonishingly annoying as a person. I'm almost tempted to say Americans get comedy right more often than Brits do. The Simpsons and Curb are two of the most sharply written things I've seen. And while Friends is INCREDIBLY irritating, it's also grimly compelling. I can't think of much British comedy that's as consistently funny as those three - Steptoe and Son, maybe.

Oh, and I can understand !£$% not liking Mitchell and Webb - they are good, but I feel like it's incredibly British humour.

godammn i hate gervais. not funny. ever. never.

I had this in my email today -

Hello

This is the only way I could contact you for now,I want you to be very careful about this and keep this secret with you until I make out space for us to see. You have no need of knowing who I am or where I am from.I know this may sound very surprising to you but it’s the situation.I have been paid some ransom in advance to terminate you with some reasons listed to me by my employer. It’s someone I beleive you call a friend, I have followed you closely for a while now and have seen that you are innocent of the
accusations he leveled against you.Do not contact the police or try to send a copy of this to them, because if you do, I will know, and I might be pushed to do what I have been paid to do.Besides, this is the ist time I turn out to be a betrayer in my job.I took pity on you, that is why I have made up my mind to help you if you are willing to help yourself.

Now listen,I will arrange for us to see face to face, but before that, I need $50,000. I will come to your home or you determine where you wish we meet; I repeat, do not arrange for the cops and if you play hard to get, it will be extended to your family.Do not set any camera to cover us or set up any tape to record our conversation, my employer is in my control now. Payment details will be provided for you to make a part payment of $15,000
first, which will serve as gurantee that you are ready to you co-orperate,then i will post a copy of the video tape that contains his request for me to terminate you which will be enough evidence for you to take any legal action against him before he employs another person for the job. You will pay the balance of $12000 once you receive the tape.

Warning; do not contact the police, make sure you stay indoors once it is 7.30pm until this whole thing is sorted out,if you neglect any of these warnimgs, you will have yourself to blame. You do not have much time, so get back to me immediately.

Note:I will advise you keep this to yourself alone, not even a friend or a family member should know about it because it could be one of them.

I will like you to reply to my privacy email kelvin.robin@hotmail.com

Regard

ni'k 05.21.2010 12:29 PM

it must be some cleverly worded to not be illegal thing... but it still seems pretty threatening to me

I generally dislike any fat comedian because for almost all of them their entire shtick is that they're big and things are harder for them since they are so fat, and then hilarity ensues!

As for an actual name, Carlos Mencia is probably the worst just because it's just typical played out racism bullshit that any 6th grader could make, and then he makes fun of mentally challenged people for good measure (Again, roughly the comedic value of a 6th grader that says "fag" and "retard" a lot), then to top off the shit cake he does that annoying "Di Di Di!" thing. What makes him worse than say Jeff Foxworthy (We get it, rednecks are unusual and apparently all are white trash) is if you call Carlos Mencia unfunny, he rants how those naysayers are just against freedom of speech and they can't handle how mature and sophisticated his comedy is (Again, since making "Mexicans are dirty!" jokes is REALLY sophisticated I guess), and unless you grew up where he did we apparently don't know God knows what about his comedy. In essence, he's a tasteless unfunny comedian on stage and a idiotic annoying asshole of stage.

Other picks would be Tom Green, Larry The Cable Guy (But then again, does anybody at this point really find him funny?) and Lewis Black (Sorry, I just always found him to be beyond overrated). Even though they really aren't comedians in the traditional sense, I think Tim and Eric are about as unfunny as people can get yet as annoying as people who think they are funny can get.
