It's still an opinion. I'm just saying it's retarded to (blatantly) insult Beck's most loved album amongst the indie circle on the worlds most indie-est message board (denying that makes it even more indie) and present it as somewhat of a universally accepted fact. And while it is obvious that it indeed was an opinion, you made no attempt to accept other people's opinions of it.

if it's so obvious that my opinion is an opinion, why do you need to point it out?
not to mention the hypocrisy of saying that i don't accept the opinion's of others whilst at the same time starting an arguement with me because i stated my opinion and you don't like it.

ZEROpumpkins 06.30.2008 05:11 AM

I'm far more pissed at the fact that you were blatently trying to stir up an argument (which you got) without considering for a second that some people here actually like Beck and indeed that album in general. That more or less fits the definition of a troll IMO.

Toilet & Bowels 06.30.2008 05:17 AM

oh no!

It's amazing that for all the talk of this and that how some people get precious about someone simply taking the time to say that they don't like a band. It's not like you have to waste your posts to somehow tryconvincing others that they should like such and such artists. They won't, yet there's nothing more entertaining than winding up music geeks, hence all the arguments on music threads.

It's true. There's usually very little "convincing" going on; just self-justification.

It is easy to get caught up in sometimes, though. Especially online.

It's even worse when you notice posters beating themselves up because they're unable to get a band like others, therefore they try hard to like something they clearly don't.

That's not an excuse for having a shit and plain conservative taste in music either, mind, because eventually that leads to make you come accross like a boring arsehole who repeats himself/herself all the time, which generally leads to having 3000 threads about the same bands with little or fuck all interesting written on them.

And don't get me started about the mutual wanking that goes on on this forum too often, it's not pretty because of the small cocks on display, eh?

Actually I agree with a lot of this.

This thread made me think how easy it is to for anyone to say that a band is overrated or underated, more so when underground music is concerned.

Bands and artists like Nirvana, Beck, Dinosaur Jr etc come from that sort of enviroment and to different degrees they made it, if only as a cult band that becomes successful enough to sell out venues or sell a sizeble amount of records.

It's almost in the genetic make up of the underground music buying person to know a lot of names that gravitate around the same enviroment as those bands and didn't make it quite as much, even if they put out better quality records, which isn't always the case. Hence the general pointing out of certain bands' assumed worth and consequent arguments when disagreement ensues. Maybe.

acousticrock87 06.30.2008 01:27 PM

I think part of it is because a lot of artists like Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr. associated with each other in the media and tours and stuff, so people assume they're somehow related musically.

Like you see Thurston Moore with the Beastie Boys and Beck on MTV once and you feel like, man, if he likes them, and I like him, maybe I'm missing something. And some people may be inclined to like Beck after that, some may not, but those that do often convince themselves that it must be a necessary link or something.

For the life of me I can't get into the Pixies, but I still feel like I must be wrong or something just because of how much they're tied into other bands I do like.

they're probably tied to bands you don't like too.

I don't really listen to Beck, though I am mildly interested in this album since I'm gonna be stuck hearing it all the time anyways.

ZEROpumpkins 07.01.2008 12:43 AM

THAT'S THE COVER?!?!
What a cop out :/

pbradley 07.01.2008 01:01 AM

I don't keep up with Beck but at what point did he start trying to be Bob Dylan?

ZEROpumpkins 07.01.2008 01:02 AM

it's seriously like
"Right, take this random band photo, open it in MS paint and like, add a border or something"
