My cousin introduced me to EJSTNS. I was about 13.
Been fascinated by their sound and Kim ever since.. |
My friend had bought Screaming Fields of Sonic Love, I was 15. He made me listen to the first few tracks and I was like, why doesn't this music rock? This sounds like shit. I was into horrible, horrible music back then. Like Smashing Pumpkins... So sad, but I ended up buying EJSTNS and even though that is probably their crappiest record it propelled me into the inexplicable beauty of the Youth. Word up.

when bill clinton was in the white house.
who saw the 100% video on mtv. who thought kim was hot. who liked steve's hair. who hated kim's growls. who was rocked from mc hammer. who loved the cover of dirty. who thought being a fan would make him cool. who lived in the bedroom over the garage. who was a sophomore in high school. who was intrigued and mystified by the lyrics. when bill clinton was in the white house. and who is irish. |
It was like a year or two before Rather Ripped came out. I had heard of them and like the name and was in a record store and just bought Washing Machine, it blew my mind. At that point in time i never heard anything like it. They still blow my mind frequently.

Somewhere between Bad Moon Rising and Evol. What was the rest of the question?

High school. I coped my brother's Daydream Nation album. 2001, I believe. I was 16. Didn't really look in to the rest of Sonic Youth's catalog until later.

When: Two weeks ago.
Why: I thought Goo had a cool cover and I've heard so many good things about the band so I bought it and the music hooked me instantly. I'm a proud n00b! |

isit? cant really stand radiohead but i hate them a bit less now. |
It was 1989 or 1990, when they showed SNUB-program on Finnish television. There were many interesting indie bands. There was a interview of Sonic Youth and they showed "Teenage Riot" and "Providence" -videos. I was not then very impressed about the band, only a little bit interested. Then I read in the end of 1990 review for "Goo" and thought, it might be good christmas present to my older brother. He liked it, but I liked it much much more! Then I borrowed "Daydream nation" from the library and ilked it lot too. Somebody bought "Dirty" and I recorded it on the c-cassette, like "Goo" and "Daydream". My first Sonic Youth lp was Sister. In 1994 I was total fan and I bought every album that is available in Finland.
