Butthole Surfers - The One I Love
|
Big Black - Heartbeat
Sex Pistols - Steppin' Stone Love - Little Red Book (originally By Burt Bacharach and Hal David) John Coltrane - My Favourite Things Led Zeppelin - Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You (ancient folk tune, made famous initially by Joan Baez). Saint Etienne - Only Love Can Break Your Heart Terminal Cheesecake - V.C.L. (cover of P Floyd's "Careful With That Axe, Eugene") The Cramps "Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! (Genius cover of the Bostweeds original) |
Blondie - Hanging On The Telephone
|
Electrelane do a good cover of Springsteen's 'I'm On Fire', but everything would be an improvement on that one.
|
Big Black do a mean cover of Kraftwerk's The Model on the b-side of He's a Whore.
|
Spacemen 3's version of Mudhoney's "When Tomorrow Hits" completely lays waste to the original.
I think it's the best song on "Recurring," even. |
Butthole Surfers make The Beatles' Come Together a bit more bearable.
|
And also Mudhoney's version of Revolution (while mentioning Mudhoney, might as well say the Hate the Police cover and Haloween.)

Yeah that was great. Also Rapeman's cover of ZZ Top's Just Got Paid. Dino's Just Like Heaven is great. And Dino's Sweet Child Of Mine cover is bloody hillarious. Deerhoof's cover of MBV's Loose My Breath. SY's Touch Me I'm Sick Dick Dale-Misrlou |
There was a really good special on tv the other week of Australian bands/musicians doing Go-Betweens covers at a tribute gig. Was really good.
|
Pavement - Camera
Sebadoh - Sickles and hammers (Minutemen) |
All Butthole Surfers covers are great. I'm pretty sure I mentioned it in some other thread but their cover of American Woman by The Guess Who is ace.
Also the Aihiyo (keiji Haino's cover band) version of Satisfaction destroys all others. Also, The Edgar Broughton Band did a two in one cover version of Apache and Dropout Boogie called, appropriately enough, Apache Dropout (I think). That is ace and a mashup decades before mashups were popular...sort of. Royal Trux did a cover of Theme From Mash which is ace and kick the Manics' efforts arse. The Rubinoos cover of I Think We're Alone Now but I don't think I've heard the original (Tommy James and the Shondells I think) but I can't imagine it's better. The Tiffany version is decent as well. Loads of people have covered it but those are the only two I've heard. |
Television - Knockin' on heaven's door

Great cover. Their new lyrics are better than the original's. |
Yeah, agreed.
An other one : Sebadoh : Everybody 's been burned and Pink Moon |
David Bowie - Nature boy
Rufus Wainwright - La complainte de la butte |
pj harvey - highway 61 revisited
and i'm gonna have to agree with those who said: elliott smith - jealous guy david bowie - nature boy |
yeah, there are a lot of good ones out there.
Have you heard the Sonic Youth covers on the new DDN edition? They knock me out, every one of them. |
