Surprised I've not seen Faust mentioned here...."The Faust Tapes" is a stone classic even now. The first LP and "So Far" still rock my world as well.

Other faves:

Popol Vuh: In Den Garten Pharaohs
Ash Ra Tempel - First album
Amon Duul I - Psychedelic Underground
Amon Duul II - Yeti
Can - Ege Bam Yasi
Neu! - Neu!
Cluster - Cluster 2
Tangerine Dream - Atem
Kraftwerk - Kraftwerk I (esp. for "Rueckzuck")

Amen.

Reading this thread over reminds me that I really, really fucking love Krautrock.

I found a mint original of Guru Guru's "Kanguru" at work recently. Stashed that one aside for myself.
Mani still completely slays the drumkit too; he is a total athlete drummer and looks about 25 years younger than he actually is. He's amazing.

ash ra tempel-shcwingungen might be my favorite. nah, ege bamyasi.

Cantankerous 07.29.2008 02:23 PM

specifically Light: look at your sun

^^^Word, essential etc

In other news, anyone here seen the footage of Amon Duul II performing "Phallus Dei" live in 1969? Completely incredible, like a cross between both the Velvets and the Fall at their most powerful.

I am thinking of attending a show on this Nektar/Brainticket/Huw Lloyd Langton (of Hawkwind) tour, but worried about these bands tendencies to cheese-out later in their careers. any thoughts? the LA show I would attend also has Helios Creed of Chrome

If it's anything like the Flower Travellin' Band reunion stay away - but seeing Nektar would be tight!!

Did Walter Wegmeuller get mentioned? I didn't see it but I could have kipped it. Tarot is fucking AWESOME. Lots of great references all up in dis bitch......

I think, at a certain point Yeti might be my favorite record I've heard in the last 10 years........
