'Quality'? And are S-club not the absolute paradigm of good-quality breezy fun pop? If not, who is please? In 2500-4000 words, making reference to the cotton revolt of 1762 in Sheffield, UK.

k-krack 12.15.2006 09:25 AM

Funny, but good breezy fun pop is, oh, say... The Vaselines. Not "ain't no party like an s-club party."

Glice 12.15.2006 09:26 AM

Eh? Eh? What? Really? Wow. That's an amazing choice. I'm astonished.

Edit: Astonished and amazed at the perversity of choice, in case anyone was wandering.

porkmarras 12.15.2006 09:26 AM

Coolness?Me?you really seem to know me more than i do,sweetheart.

Glice 12.15.2006 09:28 AM

Ha. As I've said before, I'm well aware that Cradle are pretty much awful, and I the only defence I can make is that I enjoy them for their absurd portentiousness, much like meatloaf.

What? Who are you talking to?

porkmarras 12.15.2006 09:29 AM

The Vaselines are way too 'self-conscious' to be defined as pop, though.Discussion not arguments.

Meatloaf is hilarious. In a so-cheesy-that-it's-fun way.

I consider the Vaselines basically straight-up pop music. Pop can be pop without being "popular," right? Alright. Simple, three chord, love-songs = Pop

damn, least be cool enough to have said venom. you talk about giving people lead-wat do to age in their musiocal tastes, but shit, anyone over 20 that digs cradle is almost a dumb-ass. esp. anyone thats actually spent money on such garbage.

tee-hee-hee! In all honesty, I've heard maybe... one metal band I like. And it's Burzum... Every other metal act is just... "snooooooore."

k-krack 12.15.2006 09:38 AM

I know, I'm just making a generalization, is all.

sonicl 12.15.2006 09:38 AM

I'm going to end up kicked up a hill for saying this, and then kicked back down for good measure, but I can't help but notice how American culture seems to allow no room for any crossover in tastes between mainstream and non-mainstream musics, while European culture seems to embrace that kind of a crossover, and sees no wrong in liking both sugar-sweet pop and weird-as-fuck rock. Any idea why?

k-krack 12.15.2006 09:41 AM

Well, I'm Canadian, so I resent that American comment... though I ackowledge that you mean north america... right?
I think maybe the reason is that Europeans have trhe capacity to listen to utter shit...? Whereas us closed-minded, hip, young, impatient americans can only afford ourselves to listen to quality music.
*note the dripping sarcasm, please+thanks. I don't want to fight with you though, sonicl. I like you.

like the melvins. the melvins come from a very "punk rock" background, and have experimented ALOT (i mean, much like SY, you buy 4 melvins albums, and each may cover differnt musical territory).

but heck man, theyve had somewhat of a metal vibe at times.

but yeah...typically...almost awlays...metal pretty much sux. straight ahead metal guitarist dont leave themselves room to try different things, and when they try, their audience (as stupid as they almost always are) never tend to embrace it.

sonic youth could almost get away with doing a straight ahead dylan esque folk album if they wanted. their fans woould acutally give it a chance.

haha...metallica looses half their fan base simply cause they cut their heair. heaven forbid they attempt the folk album.

stupid fuckers.

What I have heard from the Melvins annoys the hell out of me... sorry. I know what yr saying though. Metallica's fanbase nowadays seems to be 40 year old douchebags, and 13 year old "rockers."

's okay, I have no desire to fight either. It's just something I've noticed when posting on here, and it intrigues me.

Good old sonicl.I think there are several reasons for this and i'll try to explain(it's just my opinion, mind).Europe has always been the brain of the world(up until now,at least) and has more of a tradition in contextualizing its and other countries's music. In terms of general popular culture the fact that Britain is close to the rest of it(both geographically and economically) simply means that whatever pops up in the country is quickly picked up by the press/radio in the rest of Europe thus creating a musical envoirement that is self-sustained for the most part.More later as the phone's ringing........

k-krack 12.15.2006 09:50 AM

And let it be known that some of the best music I have heard ever has been coming out of Canada for the past 10 or so years. (Record labels; Constellation, Last Gang, Arts & Crafts, Alien8, [though they release alot of non-canadian music], I could go on...)

sonicl 12.15.2006 09:51 AM

Yeah, maybe we take longer to grow up in Europe. Ha ha

sonicl 12.15.2006 09:57 AM

Please, let's not have the "who started punk" argument again. It always ends in tears and acrimony.
