Ha. As I've said before, I'm well aware that Cradle are pretty much awful, and I the only defence I can make is that I enjoy them for their absurd portentiousness, much like meatloaf.

I'm going to end up kicked up a hill for saying this, and then kicked back down for good measure, but I can't help but notice how American culture seems to allow no room for any crossover in tastes between mainstream and non-mainstream musics, while European culture seems to embrace that kind of a crossover, and sees no wrong in liking both sugar-sweet pop and weird-as-fuck rock. Any idea why?

Well, I'm Canadian, so I resent that American comment... though I ackowledge that you mean north america... right?
I think maybe the reason is that Europeans have trhe capacity to listen to utter shit...? Whereas us closed-minded, hip, young, impatient americans can only afford ourselves to listen to quality music.

What I have heard from the Melvins annoys the hell out of me... sorry. I know what yr saying though. Metallica's fanbase nowadays seems to be 40 year old douchebags, and 13 year old "rockers."

's okay, I have no desire to fight either. It's just something I've noticed when posting on here, and it intrigues me.

Good old sonicl.I think there are several reasons for this and i'll try to explain(it's just my opinion,mind).Europe has always been the brain of the world(up until now,at least) and has more of a tradition in contextualizing its and other countries's music.In terms of general popular culture the fact that Britain is close to the rest of it(both geographically and economically) simply means that whatever pops up in the country is quickly picked up by the press/radio in the rest of Europe thus creating a musical envoirement that is self-sustained for the most part.More later as the phone's ringing........

And let it be known that some of the best music I have heard ever has been coming out of Canada for the past 10 or so years. (Record labels; Constellation, Last Gang, Arts & Crafts, Alien8, [though they release alot of non-canadian music], I could go on...)
