Alan Sparhawk With Trampled By Turtles (May 30)

This one had been mentioned here (hey _tunic_!), but I don't remember if a date had been given. Guess I could have searched but hey _tunic_! :D

ETA: Oh man, strings. Tunes. Unfiltered vocals. Damn I missed them. Welcome back. And no, I'm not a reactionary asshole - White Roses, My God was fine y'know...

_tunic_ 03.18.2025 06:10 AM

no, it wasn't official until today. Can't wait to hear it in full!

Some songs I haven't heard yet, he's been playing most of these songs live some no yet though e.g. Princess Road Surgery. Some others he does play live but haven't been released yet even not on this album. like that Jesus song, which is a very very old song actually.

But the Screaming song is amazing, so are some of the others on this album, it will be epic when it's done together with the Turtles

Deerhoof - Noble And Godlike In Ruin (April 25). Joyful Noise says:

Quote:

Deerhoof is back with a new record - it's called Noble and Godlike in Ruin and it's out everywhere on 4/25.

Today you can hear their new single "Immigrant Songs," which we are premiering on Craigslist. Find a link to hear the single at these Craigslist posts local to the band's whereabouts, including New York, Tucson, Portland, Minneapolis.

We're premiering the track on Craigslist to throw a finger up to the tech platforms that care only about data mining & the expansion of fascism.

“This song is kind of a sequel to Satomi describing her immigration tribulations in ‘Exit Only.’ It's what it feels like to see the discourse around immigration get so twisted. The most criminal and barbaric 'migrant horde' to invade America was from Europe. There's a sector of racialized, underpaid immigrants, doing labor white people won't, who are getting deported and dehumanized in record numbers in recent years. They are really the glue keeping our society from collapsing. It's these heroic fugitives, not millionaire politicians holding little signs with one hand while sending out fundraising emails about 'strengthening our borders' with the other, who actually have a thing or two to teach us all about how to resist and survive.” - Greg from Deerhoof

Matching the whimsical to the revolutionary, the beautiful to the horrific, Deerhoof's new album Noble and Godlike in Ruin provides a catharsis which liberates listeners from the inhumane world we’re forced to wrap our bamboozled, grief-stricken heads around. Their 20th album and follow-up to their critically acclaimed 2023 LP Miracle-Level was self-produced by the band and features Saul Williams on “Under Rats.”

We are very stoked to continue working with Deerhoof as their shocking prolificacy continues to yield amazing music. Noble and Godlike in Ruin will release on 4/25. Pre-orders are now open! The record will be available in VIP Edition "Grotesque Double Green" vinyl limited to 506 hand-numbered copies, standard edition Test Tube Green vinyl, CD, and cassette.

Can’t quite bring myself to care about this band, though they’re all the rage with the Instagram/TikTok set.

This my first post since....a long time ago. And my my next post will be a long time from now, if ever. 😂

Idk why the fuck I read this forum from time to time. Sentimental, I guess.

Sevs response to this really pissed me off. "Tiktok/IG crowd" wtf? (Neither of which I do.) Sev...you were my (sometimes) ally here, when all hope was lost!!

Whatever.

Anyway, I felt compelled to make a post, in honour of BCNR Forever Howlong:

One Of The Ten Greatest Albums Ever Made.

Yeah. That's right. I said that.

Fuck me!! How this band reinvented/recovered after Isaac Wood departed. This is Floydian post Barrett. (Actually, Floyd sucked until Echoes. Whatever.) But you get the drift.

Forever Howlong is one for the ages. Brilliant. Timeless. Strange, beautiful, meandering.

I'll never get bored of this.

They keep saying "Well it's not as compelling as Ants From Up There..." Fuck you!! This blows the previous (excellent) albums out of the water.

I've never been so floored/thrilled with a band that had to adjust.

Forever Howlong is monumental.

Cheers, Bitches.

Man, I just meant the kids like it. That’s all. Young people on the internet. Not *exclusively* young people on the internet, but that group does indeed seem to have an affinity for this band.

I like their first couple of singles back in 2018 or ‘19 or whenever, but nothing since then had grabbed me.

_slavo_ 04.15.2025 06:02 AM

I'm quite stoked about the new Preoccupations album coming up in May. The two songs from it I've heard so far are right up my alley.

Don't know if I'd put it in my all-time Top 10, but I agree with your assessment on how they successfully reinvented themselves. It's a great album and they are great at their craftmanship. I've seen them absolutely command the stage with their first post-Isaac material some 2 years ago. That was such a fucking powerhouse performance. They are not just some young'uns savvy in the use of social media, they are badass professionals on stage and in the studio. People who think they were falling apart as soon as Isaac left have probably not seen May Kershaw soulfully belt out the lyrics to "The Boy" whilst hammering the keys on the piano and also having a frickin' accordion strapped to her chest. Or the point in "Turbines/Pigs", where the piano solo gives way to an orchestral swirl of a crescendo. Performing songs with structures like these takes hard work, a lot of love and a crazy amount of stamina.

Yes, they are popular with TikTok and Insta-users. They are quite savvy at that. But that's not to take away from what they have accomplished, musically. Yep, they've ventured into a whole different area than the one they started out with. But I don't mind, really. I love me some oldschool British Folk, I'm partial to a good bit of Baroque Pop if done well. "Forever Howlong" leans right into that sweet spot. And as for their social media popularity: I see it as a net positive that music this good gets some broad recognition. I never got the hype of - say Arcade Fire (Hate they way they approach their songwriting - everything's cranked up to 11 from the getgo, there is hardly any buildup, only release, which becomes obsolete if there is no buildup. And their lyricism is cookie-cutter and strikes me as very disingenious) - but I absolutely get the hype behind BC,NR.

Thanks for coming to my TED-talk

The new Big Brave is out today. Hadn't had the time to give it a proper listen, have to get to work. But it's a special one. Far remote from their older work, doesn't have real lyrics it seems, or drums. It's more like Body/Head's ambient drone noise
Give it a try, you might like it more than the Black Country, New Road album :D
