I voted my top 5 greatest albums ever. I think most did. if someone did not then that is their facetious ass' problem. |
Quote:
that's a load of shit. people, including myself fucking LOVE loveless. nothing else sounds like it in the rock world, not really. the reunion is meaningless when it comes to the love people have for this album. |
I trust you, Rob, but it seems that a lot of people did not. They voted in comparison with other people's musical tastes.

yr ruidiculous! bad production on loveless? do you not understand that every single wash and skronk and feedback moment and dub and layer was PRODUCED specifically to sound as it does? that record may be the best produced record ever!!! how are you defining production? making it sound squeaaky clean like def leppard? making it sound live like shellac? or making it sound as altered and insane and gauzy and cryptivc as possible through production techniques a la MBV and loveless??? shit man. |
Some people did vote for what they thought had a chance to win rather than what they really thought should, which is a shame. They were definitely in the minority though and certainly not enough to sway the overall complexion of the list, especially once it reached say the top 15.
I'm still surprised by the lack of votes for Psychocandy which I would've thought would be a shoe in for the top ten at least. |

it always strikes me as hilarious the eletist snob attitudes everyone here gets. if you showed this list to a standard rocker, otr even a regular indie rocker, they woudl not know half the albums. I think it is a great list of very essential albums!!!!! |
Quote:
miles gets mad love here, but this was to be a ROCK list no? |
Quote:
THAT IS IT EXACTLY! each album judged as a work of art in and of itself! too bad yr so young or you would know how it is to love aN ALBUM and not just songs you get from a fileserver man! |
and you are CRAZY ridiculous foolish for even thinkin that loveless, or MBV was about DRUMS> it was a guitar album. GUITAR. fuck the drums on loveless. they do what is needed. the GUITAR man!! rock n rolllllllll
|
The Minutemen album actually got quite a few votes but they were all quite lowly ranked, which meant that it wasn't able to compete with albums (like Space Ritual) which got less votes overall but was ranked considerably higher when it was.
|
Quote:
well, that is good to know. psychocandy did not get in because this was not a poll taken at a goddamn middleschool dance circa 1990 man!!!!! fuck the jesus and mary chain!!!!! |
Quote:
Hahaha. Yes. Although can we honestly say that Sonic Nurse is a better album? |
nope. but we can honestly say that a lot of under 18 peeps voted and likely have never heard psychocandy!
I love sonic nurse, but it is a surprise. I woudl not put it onmmy top ten sonic albums |
Well sure, but I can't imagine many people here haven't heard Psychocandy, regardless of their age. they voted for the Velvets after all, and they were around in the what, 1800s or something.
|
ahh bu the velvets get a lotta cock lick around here. even though half their songs are boring hippie shit.
|
I traded in my cd copy of Psychocandy yesterday.
|
I don't actually own it anymore. I can safely say though, that it's one of those I never really need to hear anymore. It's sort of scarred into my DNA now to the point where I can just imagine it back in its entirety, and in sequence.

What the hell are you talking about Rob? Of course, Loveless was a guitar album. But, hey, Loveliescrushing do albums of nothing but guitar and they sound a hell of a lot better than MBV -- so why don't people vote for them? There's a good reason why MBV decided that the drums should be there -- and they sound like shit. Even a hardcore devotee of Loveless can't say the drums on that thing sound good. It's not a big hangup for me, it just amuses me that a band so hung up on sonic possibilities and exploration would make such a tinny drum robot.
Also, every album is not great; you can make any argument you want to support an album as a work of art, sure, and I guess if you judge everything as such then yeah, every album is PERFECT! But, unfortunately, I don't dare think that anyone on this board is open minded enough to enjoy everything. At least I can say that even a band I hate, a song I hate, an album I hate that I've listened to.... I can say something good about it. Not sure how that makes me narrow minded. Also, I own well over 400 albums (though I've owned more that I've sold at different points in my life). Not a huge amount, but uh, I don't just "get stuff off da file serva". |
testy testy!
what you are saying about Loveless is a PERSONAL TASTE OPINION and is not a definite treatise on the "sorry" drum sounds in loveless man! get over it! that album is perfect from start to finish I only wish there were 24 inch vinyls so I could play the whole fucker at top volume straight through without flippin the record. fuck CD's! MBV were hung on on GUITAR'S SONIC exploration, guitars guitars guitars. get it? drums are a mere afterthought!!!!! |

what no wolf eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
a great list and fairly good barometer of folk on here respect to the demon! |
loveless was my number one and im not gonna deny that! adam i disagreed before and i will do again but thats life isnt it!
shellac and pavement.. although great great albums..... they are not quite trout mask replica or fun house now are they (albeit 2 albums which bore me senseless) they are classics! now for the neg rep! |

No shit. You posted your opinion, I posted mine. Whatever you read into my posts, I never said my opinion was definitive, just the drum sound on Loveless sucks and lots of people think so. I'm not proving a point; just saying, "Hey, lots of people think this! THat doesn't mean you have to think that!" People don't have to keep going "duh it's personal taste!" This is a MESSAGE BOARD for DISCUSSION. Obviously people have opinions, otherwise it'd just be Moshe's news story posts. |
Also, Byron, I agree that Loveliescrushing wouldn't exist without Loveless. I still think all their albums are greater than Loveless. :)
|
punky brewster's lookin rough! maybe she shoudl not have remioved half her titties?
![]() |
i owe you an apology adam....... i think i may have picked you up a bit too literally.... yes the drum sound sucks on loveless but that doesnt matter in my opinion..its not a drum based album.....
dont you love opinons and their bringers... thats what makes this forum real good... opinionated stubborn bastards like you and me and them and us! long live the bickering!!! |
Right, exactly. I think oftentimes people end up agreeing with me and vice-versa but it's hard to totally convey your feelings on certain things over the internet without going into complex details.
When I say "the drum sound sucks" it doesn't mean that I'm saying the album is 100% brought down by it... I just find the drums amusing and distracting at times and wish they had a better sound. Not really much else to say. |
Loveless is an inventive album, and definitely influential, but it just wanders along too much for my ears. The whole things sounds vaguely unfinished. Like a series of sketches to be crafted into something coherent later.
|
Yeah, I think that way too.
I really do like Isn't Anything, though it isn't flawless either. At least it rocks. |
The only thing I really like on Isn't Anything is 'Feed Me with your Kiss'. The rest of it just washes over me. In the case of Loveless, had it been reduced to only 'When You Sleep', 'I Only Said', 'Come in Alone' and 'Soon' you'd have one of the greatest EPs imaginable, but too much of the rest seems slightly half-baked.
|
"Feed me with your kiss" IS a masterpiece but so is "Sueisfine"...
I dunno, they're a good band. Just not great. |
I dunno, maybe they are a great band, certainly enough people think they are. Maybe it's just that I don't like them much. Led Zeppelin are a great band, that I can't listen to at all. But they're still great.
|
Well, I agree with that to an extent... but the same could be said about any band you don't like, because a lot of people will always love a band even if they're terrible.
For example, Mars Volta are not by any stretch of the imagination, a great band, despite fooling some people into believing they are. Haha. |
Quote:
Yes but I wouldn't respect the opinion of someone who described Mars Volta as great, but many people whose taste I do respect have described Led Zep or MBV as such. |
I can see that.
|
Quote:
Yes, I was a little over the top there. I do also like '(When You Wake) You're Still in a Dream'. Although I do find the vocals on almost all MBV tracks really difficult to like. |
Aw, really? I think the vocals are the best part.
"You Made Me Realize" has some of the best vocals I've ever heard. Very melodic and harmonious... whoo! |
Whatever my thoughts on it, I do like to think that there's an album made by a different band, released around the same period as the winner, that has been adopted so fully by SY fans. Of all the albums in that final ten, I'm sort of glad that Loveless is where it's at. What's more, I wouldn't be surprised if just such a list drawn up on a MBV board didn't have Loveless at number one and DDN at number two. Most people I know for whom MBV are their avourite band tend to like SY almost as much.
