Pre-ordered the LP at fingerprints in Long Beach,CA with no problems. Other than the 44.99 price tag....um what? Is this right? Is there any other particular perks for this album on vinyl?

GrungeMonkey 03.27.2009 06:41 AM

So is it impossible for me to buy early get now if I live in the UK?

Moshe, the *- while supplies last in the first announce by matador scares me...
Are we SURE the live lp won't be "sold out" before the 28th of april? I hope so, coz I have to order 2 copies...
And if there are no diffferences between the "usa" and "uk" begn things, then perhaps I'd be better off asking for help to uk pippol...

Moshe 03.27.2009 08:08 AM

^don't know how limited it is...

New Sonic Youth Album - Buy Early Get Now Offer!

POSTED BY Rod ON Thu Mar 26, 09:15 AM

The new Sonic Youth album, The Eternal, is not officially released until June 9, but thanks to Matador Records' "Buy Early Get Now" promotion, you not only get to hear the record as early as April 28, but you also will get a bonus limited live vinyl Sonic Youth LP (while supplies last), a limited-edition poster, plus exclusive MP3 outtakes and live tracks with your purchase! Here's how it works:
Come in to one of our stores and ask for a Sonic Youth Buy Early Get Now card. You purchase the CD or LP in advance and fill out the card which will include your unique code to download your bonus tracks from the website specified on the card. You take half of the card (don't lose it!) and wait for the goodies to roll in. Here's what you will get:
April 28 - Exclusive pre-release stream of The Eternal becomes available. First bonus MP3 download will also be available at this time.
May 12 - Second bonus MP3 download available
June 2 - Third bonus MP3 download available
June 9 - Official release date - bring your half of the Buy Early Get Now card into the store to get your copy of The Eternal, bonus live LP, and poster!
The CD version of The Eternal is priced at $19.99, the vinyl LP is $33.99.

nicfit 03.28.2009 06:13 AM

UH!
timetable!
calendar!
so, don't get me wrong if I "type" this out loud...

mp3s ---> please make them flac, willya?

ok about the rest, STILL I'm afraid if I end up ordering 2 copies from some online store, the LPs and Posters will be sold out..given to those people going to the "real life" stores haha.

stu666 03.28.2009 06:19 AM

the downloads will be available in mp3 and flac

Yeah, the Pavement BEGN offer offered the two downloads in both formats as well.

stu666 03.28.2009 07:04 AM

Yep.
I think i have just reserved the lp and also the 2 x 7" that come out on record store day. It sounds like these are going to be very limited in the uk.

hirsute_biped 04.01.2009 12:11 PM

the vinyl LP is $33.99.[/quote]

When i initially read about the "bonus" live LP, it seemed like it was a free bonus, but now with this price, it seems like a bonus that you pay for. or at least partly pay for. if supplies of this bonus LP run out, i'm paying $33.99 for a 2 LP set? to offset the cost of other people's bonus copies?

"bedonk-a-donk"

guston 04.01.2009 06:42 PM

I have participated in the last Pavement BEGN and the Stephen Malkmus BEGN.

In the Pavement BEGN I think matador ended the offer at a set time and all customers who placed in order received an LP (meaning that there is no set number to begin with, but the edition of the bonus LP is determined by the amount of buyers before the cut off date).

I would imagine the SY BEGN will work the same way.

And for all the naysayers complaining about price, keep in mind that Matador presses their LP's on high quality 180 gram vinyl, and the sleeves are really nicely produced as well. They put out a quality product and their prices reflect that. Toss in the bonus LP (not 180 gram, but still a nice keepsake) and the poster, Mp3s, and stream, and you've got a pretty great deal.

IMHO

I just re-listened to the preview, sounds like Kim dominates on this album.

so I've emailed there and that's the answer I got:

"We've been selling independent music all over the world for 20+ years now. This is the first UK experiment with BEGN so I'm not even sure myself yet how it's going to work! Basically, it seems by placing the preorder you will qualify for all the extras. The price of vinyl and CD has been set by the record company. I'm expecting vouchers and more information to arrive closer to the actual release date. If you place an order, as I hope you will, no payment will actually be taken until everything's ready to send. Sorry to be a bit vague, this seems to be the most complex release I've yet come across!"

Concrete Abutments 04.03.2009 09:51 AM

I'd like to know why the disc is $19.99! It'll be everywhere for around $10 or $12 when it's released. NO WAY am I paying $19.99 for it.

Piepi 04.03.2009 02:05 PM

Has anyone made any experience with recorstore.co.uk? I want to order begn from there and i am from germany... Does anyone know how long the deliviery takes?

Unless you want the bonus live LP... $20 for an LP *AND* a CD seems pretty fair to me.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.09.2009 01:14 AM

If I pay 33 dollars and they run out of bonus LPs before I get mine I'll be really upset.

I think they press LPs based on demand, i.e.:
number of LPs = number of people who signed up for BEGN

That was always my understanding, too. I've never heard of anyone NOT getting the "bonus" LP... the limit is, as you suggest, tied to demand... though, strangely enough, they must have OVER-pressed the live Pavement LP since it's part of Record Store day... weird.

Well, I simplified things a bit - I assume they press a somewhat larger run since LPs get damaged/lost/stolen during transport or in the mail.

deadrockstar 04.10.2009 05:57 PM

For anyone in Edinburgh I popped into Avalanche today and they confirmed they are doing this. They are expecting to be in contact with Matador on Tuesday (14th) to finalise and will start taking pre-orders at the end of next week.

radarmaker 04.11.2009 11:01 AM

Pre-ordered mine today at RPM in Newcastle - apparently they got the vouchers for it in this morning. It was a frankly-ridiculous £28 for the vinyl pressing (£21 for the CD).

Actually, the RSD Pavement album is a second live LP recorded during the Brighten The Corners days. Not previously released. Similar cover design to the BEGN live LP.

exploding plastic candle 04.12.2009 05:32 PM

will who gets the bonus LPs be determined by who signed up first? I hope not because I haven't signed up yet. I plan on doing it online on April 28th.

Also, is everyone planning on listening to the stream? I think I might give it one listen through, but I'd rather have the actual record in my hand the first listen. begin intense dilemma.

patrickamory 04.13.2009 11:17 AM

The bonus LPs are first-come first-serve, however we expect there to be plenty left when online ordering goes live on April 28.

Anyone who preorders after the vinyl runs out will not be charged the full price - you will get an opportunity to get just the record plus extras, stream and poster (as long as *those* last) at the regular price, or cancel your order.

Do you know how much they're charging for it in Avalanche? I'm not sure whether to buy from there, or online.

Sir Paul Skinback obe 04.14.2009 06:31 AM

I just got my code emailed to me 30 mins ago, have registered and logged in. The only mp3 download available so far is The Eternal Montage

auto-aim 04.14.2009 09:01 AM

Where can i BNGE for the UK?

auto-aim 04.14.2009 09:05 AM

i got the store finder but it's confusing as to what i do. contact the store?

Concrete Abutments 04.14.2009 09:43 AM

You go to the store itself, slam your money down and they give you a coupon with a code on it to download the stuff.

greenlight 04.15.2009 06:10 AM

Thin_icE 04.15.2009 09:01 AM

I'm going to order online from a uk store (I'm thinking of rough trade), should I face any problems? I'm just trying to avoid the import duties from the us.

blunderbuss 04.15.2009 09:25 AM

May I recommend that you try Norman Records, simply because my experience is that they are very nice people.

greenlight 04.15.2009 10:20 AM

I'm dealing with Rhytm Online (Cambridge). they are very nice as well.

Agreed! I like Norman Records.

wills123 04.16.2009 11:50 PM

The first cds i ever bought on the internet came from Norman Records (first two Blonde Redhead lps) - I ordered them at 3pm and they came early next morning with free chewy sweet!. They emailed me the code yesterday for The Eternal stream.

deflinus 04.16.2009 11:58 PM

im too lazy to read the other replies and find out whats going on. i don't want to put an order in a record store, i want to pre-order with matador records themselves. but i can't do that until april 28th right?

viewtiful_alan 04.16.2009 11:59 PM

I preordered it a record store and got a sheet with a code on it, do I have to wait til the 28th to use it or is that just when matador gives it out on the website?
