Steve Shelley is known by many and most as the drummer for the not-too-recently "disbanded" Sonic Youth. Shelley, along with his mates Brian Case, Damon Carruesco and Jonathan van Herik, make up the gritty Chicago rock troupe, Disappears. The band's new album, Pre Language, is out now via Kranky, and Shelley himself will be live in the EVR studio on Thursday to chat with Infinite Eargasm's DJ Hallogallo.

I went to the gig in Hasselt yesterday. It was an excellent show, had a great time. It was really great seeing Steve playing. Also finally grabbed the LP-version of Pre Language :)

RanaldoNecro 04.01.2012 09:57 AM

I am going to see them 2 weeks today in Toronto. Should be good. I know nothing about them.

RanaldoNecro 04.01.2012 09:58 AM

Is there a listing of all releases?

Not to be an ass, but do you have a longer report as to why they rocked? I know you're here to make friends etc, so writing a little more on their live qualities would help knowing who you are a little more.

Genteel Death 04.14.2012 01:04 PM

You're too often monosyllabic, that's all.

EVOLghost 04.14.2012 01:08 PM

Nah, I'm terrible with words and describing stuff. All I can say is that they played music, and they played it well. Those guys did what they had to do, and Steve kicked my face in once again. There you go guy.

Cool. I get you're a boring bastard then.

Yes, very much so.

Read Pitchfork if you want a pompously overblown, scientific, dissertational account, bordering on gross pretentiousness, of gigs.

There's two support acts for Disappears show in Eindhoven. One of those supports is seeking (local) guitarists and drummers to help out! If you are interested you can drop a mail to info@effenaar.nl

Link:
http://www.effenaar.nl/agenda/7191

Crappy Google translation of that quote:
The Peter J Taylor Big Band consists of a procession of local guitarists, among headed by Englishman Peter J Tailor (eg Action Beat), which Glen Branca and Sonic Youth-like guitar improvisation play. We are looking for plenty of guitarists and drummers who wanted to live like this. You can register at info@effenaar.nl .

Looks like a real fun night, I wish I was there to tape it. Oh hey, I will :D

Should I start a single thread for this?

(edit: just remembered that I filmed Action Beat in Paris and put it on youtube in superduper shitty quality. Hell of a fun show that was to watch from above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxL6aosGwpw&feature=plcp )
