Thurston Moore is releasing his new album Demolished Thoughts on May 24th, and we have a special treat for our mail order customers - CLEAR VINYL

Mail order vinyl will be on CLEAR VINYL and include a poster
LP includes download voucher

On Tuesday May 24, Matador will be releasing ‘Demolished Thoughts’, the 4th solo album from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore (5th if you count 1998′s ‘Root’) and the first to be produced by Beck Hansen. Recorded in Los Angeles and Northampton, MA this past autumn & winter, with a title culled from The Faith’s “It’s Time”, ‘Demolished Thoughts’ is an equally beautiful and brooding work ; while there’s more than a few tonal similarities to some of your favorite Moore compositions from years past, the execution this time around is nothing short of staggering. No disrespect to 1995′s ‘Psychic Hearts’ or 2007′s ‘Trees Outside The Academy’ is intended on our part when we promise ‘Demolished Thoughts’ burnishes Thurston’s rep as a classic songwriter in ways we never anticipated when this album was first being talked about last year.

why the hell is Matador charging $12 to ship a $12 CD to Europe? That's insane.
Love the Benediction track though, can't wait to hear the full album

Thanks!

New song is great aswell :)

Will be an awsome album

Ghostchase 05.01.2011 07:43 PM

I must buy the Japanese version.

muttlegs 05.02.2011 03:43 AM

I am a little confused by what version on vinyl is what number. HMV (UK) are selling preorder 2LP coded OLE9531 for £12.99 (pretty cheap!) and another code OLE9538 for £17.99 (difference?). That along with Clear for Matador direct and Blue vinyl US Indie stores release make all this a bit confusing.

At first glance looks like loads of slight differences to allow them Matador to press higher quantities but call each version limited.

Any ideas anybody?

greedrex 05.03.2011 10:03 AM

OMFG
the production on the LP sounds horribly horrible.
The songs appear to be good enough with vintage Thrston chords but dear God these arrangements are so out of place and all over the place.
Amazing how he lost the tracks there....
wow. This may be the first Thurston LP i just don't care about...
Sick.

frades 05.06.2011 01:50 PM

it's sounds like a continuation of "trees outside the academy". Same woody music that shows all the experience of the musicians. but not very enjoyable. too philosophical thoughts.

Pink Noise 05.08.2011 09:19 PM

It sounds like 'Trees'.. I mean, the instruments are basically the same and it's Thurston chords, you can even hear the 'Wonderful Witches' vocal melody self ripoff in 'Circulation'.. but it's awesome

I really like the way it sounds. The production works at it's best for these songs...I have to admit that I first thought it sounded like a weak (ok watered-down) version of 'Trees' but that was just a stupid comparison, something music is so-totally not about. The arrangements annoyed me a bit but now something's clicked in my head and I love 'em..

I can't wait to listen to the complete album.

RanaldoNecro 05.08.2011 09:43 PM

not crazy about the tracks. Too much like the jack Rose tribute album. I know where he is going to those 12 string sounds but does it really work?

Mortte Jousimo 05.09.2011 12:46 AM

I just listened Circulation and I must say it blew my mind!!! I think Benediction is beautiful, but Circulation is something much more positive way outer-space stuff!!! Now I got very great expectations about the album, hope they fill! Yes, there is something same as in the Trees outside, but it sounds to me that Thurston has taken the stuff much more far than it was in Trees outside. I think Trees outside was kind of raw version of that what is coming, at least if you compare it the songs that I have already heard. And I think Thurston´s direction with the 12 strings really works!!!

You all who think Sonic Youth or Thurston can´t make any good music anymore (even they would make Sister again if they weren´t make it already) what are you doing here? Of course everybody can say he/she´s true opinion, but do you have to say it in the SY gossip? I think there is lots of other forums you can do it. I think you should listen the whole album at least before you judge it.

what does everybody think so far?

i'm not really impressed.
it could be because im in a bad mood and im not in a mood for an acoustic/violin album
but i'll see if i change my mind once i pick it up

mil_pl 05.16.2011 01:24 PM

I think I'm into it. I guess that production is not overwhelming Thurston's style and I enjoyed the vocals.
Blood Never Lies is such a beautiful song.
