yes I think I have all the comp tracks. the jukebox buddah one is my favorite. My favorite non-scg work, though, is definitely their collabs with cerberus shoal...
I heard an album today called def in italy and the second song is them doing the good the bad and the ugly theme. |

i meant in actual LP or CD form, not 1's and 0's. ;) |
Oh.. then no way! Haha.
|
I would never think of trying to complete a Sun City Girls collection in physical form. There would be a lot of hard searching involved!
|

i started searching in the early 90s, and aside from the Cloaven cassettes (most of which I have cdrs that i personally ripped from someone else's copies) i almost have everything. they are the one band i am closest to being a completist (though i couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on the Piano Bar box...) |
No kidding, my friend bought me the Piano Bar box for Xmas!
|
i only buy whatever has been reissued
so i OWN dulce, youre never alone with a cig, and valentines for matahari the rest of their albums i have on 0001110010101 no way im spending 70$ on a cd. |
yeah.. even if it is the sun city girls.
|
prices have definitely fallen:

whoo, recession!
|
I wonder if Tokolosh had any idea this thread would get this far...
|
No I didn't, but thanks to you and other dedicated listeners, it's alive and well.
Played Carnival Folklore Resurrection Radio yesterday. Oriental radio rules! |
Yes! :)
|
i don't think i've heard a single sun city girls song ever, but i really like the cambodian record they (one of them?) put out.
|
Actually... You'd probably love a decent amount of their releases.
|
probably

a friend sent this to me today, two bootlegs from shows from 1993 |
I am new to them, and I am enthralled.
|
SWEET!
|
I'd love to see Sun City Girls with TFUL282.
|
Those two AND Caroliner played together. Can you imagine?
|
My brain has just exploded onto the wall.

i think i might like dante's disneyland inferno the best ATM
itll probably change soon. but i really love this album |
man this is cheap

Dante's is probably their best, really. I just don't listen to it as much. But that's my favorite aspect of the band, the more spoken-word type stuff... UNCLE JIM'S SUPERSTARS OF GREENWHICH MEANTIME or whatever is just awesome.

it didn't stay cheap (although still it wasn't a bad price for a 3LP set which has been OOP for a while). |
i dont like this thread getting too buried
here a really good cover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVFhBXTcbnk |
i listened to a ton of SCG stuff on shuffle yesterday.
and i found a trader who will swap my extra _GIMSS/Superpowerless_ 2LP copy for teh _Folk Songs_ one which i don't have. oh, and Eclipse has just issued #5 in teh series, so don't dilly-dally. |
Really? I can't find any info about the new eclipse one. DO you know of any online shops that are carrying it yet?
|
I'm bored so gonna list my top 5 SCG releases:
1. Horse Cock Phepnor 2. Dawn of the Devil 3. Torch of the Mystics 4. Kaliflower 5. Dulce |
![]() |
good list
id switch DWD with dantes and tie kaliflower and dulce and put 330,00crossdressers at #3 and TOM at 1 and HCP at four that should be an SAT question |
Quote:
i don't, but i received my copy last week. email ed and he'll give you the scoop. his site is rarely updated, so it's best to get on the mailing list. |
no way i could possibly rank 5, but here are ten must-own records of theirs:
libyan dream self-titled 330,003 crossdressers kaliflower torch dante's grotto of miracles djinn funnel box of chameleons all their singles |
my top 10:
Top 10? 1. single collections 2 disc (which is a bootleg release but it really is the best! Look for it on slsk...) 2. box of chameleons (this has everything that makes scg good over the course of 128 tracks; I've listened to this more than any other release by them; insanely brilliant) 3. static from the outside set (this is kinda like above, except it's one of their "radio show" albums and it's great, tons of rants, a great richard bishop burner dedicated to django, lots of brilliance) 4. superstars of greenwhich meantime (which is an uncle jim release actually but... basically 40 minutes of ranting over some jazz and such) 5. crossdressers (disc one has some of their best songs, disc two has some of their best noisey/improv moments, just awe-inspiring) 6. horse cock phepner (you all know this one) 7. dante's (i'm more attracted to the spoken word/rants/fucked up stories of scg so I naturally love this one) 8. torch of the mystics (classic, of course) 9. high asia/lo pacific (extremely underrated) 10. the great north american tricksters (this one has no music on it.... but...) |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGicoan1mIo
the first song has become one of my most listened to SCG songs the second one has always been one of my faves and this one is for good measure http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRbtyTLV5to |
fugazifan I'm sure you didn't see my posting of this elsewhere:
http://www.rapidshare.com/files/1731...nger.zip.html/ The Messenger Girls Trio is comprised of Rob Millis, Jeffrey Taylor, Dave Knott and Sir Richard Bishop. Released by Anomalous Records on LP in an edition of 200 copies in 2003. These pieces are a collage of improvisations on acoustic guitars and harmonium, edited from hours of incredibly diverse material. |
