Seriously, you've read it? I'd never even heard of it until today. Pulled it off the library shelves on a whim.

So far it's actually not bad. The writer seems to have some grasp of descriptive language.

Well, it's interesting to see his side of the story. It does try to show that he wasn't exactly the hypnotic cult leader the media made him out to be, but he still accepts the blame for the Tate/LaBianca murders... it just shows them commiting those murders in an attempt to frame 'the blacks' for Hinman's murder by Beausoleil, instead of him having ordered the murders specifically to start a race war. I'd say it's probably a good companion to Helter Skelter. It doesn't really add too many more 'facts,' but it puts a different spin on events and his life. The sex scenes were pretty rediculous though.

You have to wonder how much of it is true, though. Charlie Manson still doesn't seem like the most trustworthy guy on the planet.

And, I have to wonder what would've become of him, had he been a successful musician...

I just finally got around to starting Lord Valentines Castle by Robert Silverberg. Very engaging from the start. It appears we have a science fiction novel that reads like Fantasy in the tradition of such work set by Anne McCaffrey (who is quoted raving about the book within the paperback edition). The planet Marjipoor is apparently vastly large with more than one species of humanoid roaming it, but the technology, after 8,000 years has devolved to the equivalent of our Dark Ages. The book begins with a commoner who's suffered some sort of memory loss who just happens to share the same name with Lord Valentine, the ruler of the gigantic planet.

Call of Cthulu and Other Weird Stories by HP Lovecraft.

Weird to read this book after hearing about Cthulu all my life (my dad's a huge sci-fi nerd) and finding it to be so completely mindblowing.

"Mind blowing" is an especially amusing description of Lovecraft's books given that's exactly what tends to happen when his protagonists look upon the images of the Old Ones!
