Nice, thanks for the link. I wonder if he came up with The Best Day as the album's title after all those "upcoming new releases" lists that read "Thurston Moore - TBD" ("to be determined"). On the other hand, I'm probably reading too much into this shit. :) |
interview and review (in dutch), sounds very promising

I'm listening to it for the first time. The first song sounds awesome. I think I walk straight to the record store after work in this week's Friday (isn't it the release date).
|
So my friend asked me, "did you go see sebadoh?" I said, "no cuz thurston moore solo shit is boring." He said, "I know whats up with that!" He's not even a big sonic youth fan so his opinion is better than ours
|
Sonic Youth > Thurston Moore solo

You're So Wrong Genteel

That's true, but what can you do? Thurston's stuff is closest thing to Sonic Youth there is anymore. |
Thats only technically true but a good point all the same. In truth we've been, calling his solo stuff boring in comparison to sonic youth for years since we had the luxury the better alternative.

okay so what does Thurston Moore have to do with not seeing Sebadoh? I know they are playing on the same bill together for some shows if you want to see one and not the other, so do it... or not... who cares. who gives about your friend's opinion around here, actually what gives about yours too. |

I'd have to agree w/ this as Lee's "Dust" sounds more like classic rock with folk influences w/ a modern touch (from 90's to present). Body/Head is just a completely different animal... I'm not sure what to think of "The Best Day" some of the songs are quite simplistic sounding and harken back to psychic hearts and some mid/late 90's era SY, nothing wrong with that... it is what it is. I like the recording quality oddly and Deb Googe was a good choice on bass she has a driving bass sound that meshs well w/ Steve's drumming. The acoustic songs sound like leftovers from Demolished Thoughts w/o the heavy Beck production. The songs sound better live (from at least a few youtube vids and KEXP webcast) as the album tracks are at abit slower pace... |
