I'm going to bring this thread back, because you guys are literally the only people I can ever have a conversation with about this shit.
I'm listening to Soul Discharge '99 again, and swinging between 'holy shit this is awesome' and 'why the hell am I listening to this?' I'm still definitely keeping it on my phone, and 'Pow Wow Now' is probably one of my favourites. The question is...where do I go from here? |

Vision Created Newsun about my favorite. Explore their live sets for a lot of interesting sounds
|
Vision Creation and Super Ae for sure!
|
I had a tape with Soul Discharge '99 on one side and Decals by Beefheart on the other. What a C-90 that bad boy was. Happy days.

Anything with Yoshimi in it. OOIOO are choice. Gold & Green was my first LP by them, very highly recommended. Grow Sound Tree is a great track off it if you want to dip a toe in the water. Sounds fuck all like Soul Discharge, mind. Not 100% on more Soul Discharge-ish stuff, but their shift from shambling noise scumfucks to sunworshipping drum circle psych wizards happened over a few years in the mid 90s. Super Roots are kinda the Boredoms' very own SYR series; 6/7/8 cover the transition period and are worth a pop. The whole extended Boredoms family tree is worth investigating. Fucking love that shit dude. |
Green Milk From The Planet Orange is well worth the listen.
Dead-Air introduced me to them in 2006 when they played -LIVE- on What’s That Called? I want to say Green Milk crashed at Ricardo’s and possibly played a mini concert in his kitchen? They are still touring: May 4, 2019 Their new album, THIRD, was released last month. |
I have seen them several times and they are indeed quite the force of nature. Progressive rock is not dead!
|
I was hoping their Spring tour would make it to Texas, but alas they stayed close to the PNW......maybe someday.
|
I can't recall how I bumped into them, but I got quite hooked by Kikagaku Moyo (Green Sugar, once the 1st minute is reached: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDLhkvJZfnI)
Which lead to Minami Deutsch, whose live performances are better than on record (Sunrise, Sunset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_eRwrjrQ_E) Damo Suzuki's used them as a backing band at least once. |
