Old thread but I'd like to contribute wahey.
1. Dr. Dre - The Chronic 2. OutKast - Stankonia 3. Gza/The Genius - Liquid Swords 4. Blackalicious - Blazing Arrow 5. Nas - Illmatic I'm positive I've posted to this thread already but I'm too lazy to check. For some reason I've been enjoying hip hop way more than rock music lately. I've just not been able to settle into listening to any noise rock or other genres I regularly indulge in. |
Did you ever hear that Blackalicious A to G EP? That got played an astonishing amount at the time. That and Roots Manuva's Witness, I think it was a similar time. Ish.
I think if I listed five hip-hop LPs it'd just be the first five I think of. I like some hip-hop, but not enough to have a top five. |
Nah I haven't. I've actually only heard Blazing Arrow and even though it's so astonishing to me I never felt like listening to any of their other stuff. I'll listen to it in due time I'm sure.

this is still spot on. it is still hard to pick a fifth one. I guess those 4 are the only ones I feel are masterpieces. maybe something by outkast but its too hard to pick between atliens, aquemini & stankonia |
New list:

This is really fucking hard because I'd say the majority of my collection is hip hop. I just can't even try to narrow it down as much as I try.
Reminds me of that part in High Fidelity when the interviewer is like 'what are your top 5 albums ever' and he's like WTF? "Top 5 for the club? The home? What?" I mean, I could probably say my Top 5 Summer hip hop albums. Or Southern. Or Brooklyn. Or 1996. Or anything if it were narrowed down. But this... this is way too much. |
Yeah I know what you mean, I just kinda thought about at that moment what are my top 5.
But think about this, no matter what mood or time your are rating for, shouldn't at least 1 or 2 of yr ''whatever'' top five be in your all time top 5, such complexities |
I can easily come up with MIDNIGHT MARAUDERS and ENTER THE WU-TANG, but after that it's way too confusing.
