Steves drumming is so good because its simple and held back. It counter balances the freedom and freakouts in the music. He's the anchor that holds it all together
and then when he has the freedom (SYR3 SYR8) he creates beautiful liquid sounds and textures Thats why the best musicians contribute to the whole piece rather than take the opportunity to show off needlessly at the expense of the music |
But remember, SPIN had him ranked at only #98.
http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/sho...highlight=spin Think you know more than SPIN? Yeah, I do too. |

Isn't it Jim O'Rourke that plays drums on SYR3? I may be mistaken, do please correct me if I am! |
Ive not heard that before!

Anyone know the tuning to "Vocabularies" and "Tape"?

Dirty is a fantastic.record, it.usually makes,my sonic youth top5. BUT lets not kid ourselves here its in no way better than Nevermind. I mean Nevermind isnt even my fav Nirvana record but its easily in the pantheon of 20 best records of ALL TIME if not in the top10 yo

I've been really hard on Sonic/Sonic related stuff in more recent years, but must admit that "The Best Day" is fantastic. The lyrics feel a bit lazy at times, but all in all I feel as if it's a breath of fresh air. Trace elements of Sonic Nurse beauty with dashes here and there of the jammy psyche that made A Thousand Leaves the perfect thing that it was, is, and always will be. I really feel Thurston nailed it on this one. Hope this signifies good things for the future. I do feel as if Thurston is in a great place and may be reinventing elements of himself as he ventures into a new era of his life. Not at all a bad thing. He's a cool mother fucker, despite anything I or anyone else has ever said.

Dirty was ok and it had TO DO when i was 15 until i got Sister. thought it was glossy and not noisy enough while expecting some Endless Nameless wild free form jam shit. then came the deluxe version and i fell in love with it and rocked it out. haven't heard it since.
btw, steve is a great drummer. very tight like the guy from gang of four or devo. punk but tight post punk with a feel for improv. excellant drumming. Neil Peart is an asshole. you can tell these things by the way someone plays an instrument. |

Mr. Moore... I'm ready to see you again in Uruguay!!! You are always welcome!

The Best Day is a killer track. Who is that with that explosive solo? Must be Sedwards cuz sounds too bluesy to be T.
I love this, don't understand tha hate. |
I think Best Day is the weakest track of the album, really mediocre. Hope T will make in the future more songs like Speak To the Wild & Forevermore.
|
it helped seeing it live last week but i think Grace Lake is one of the best Thurston Songs i've heard.
its amazing its sonic youth amazing |

Grace Lake is indeed a great track, announced by Thurston last night in Antwerp as "Rosetta" (?) |
