My feelings about My Bloody Valentine's output change depending on my mood, but generally I'd stand by them as one of my favourite bands. Anyway, the point of this post is to say that, in my opinion, I Can See It (But I Can't Feel It) is the best track on Isn't Anything. I fucking love it.

I tend to think that because the music has this quite ethereal sense to it, that the vocals need to have more of an edge to them. It's the difference for me between them and say something like SY on 'Cotton Crown' which never sounds insipid, despite its more laidback guitar sound. |
Soft As Snow and Lose My Breath are my favorite MBV songs. Isn't Anything was the first thing I heard from them, so it kinda felt downhill after such a great opening. I hate Feed Me With Your Kiss.
|
"Feed Me With Your Kiss" is awesome, it's so sludgey and grungey that it's ridiculous.
|
I'm really surprised there're not more albums from the 90's.
|
isn't anything > loveless
but loveless is still great |

MBV is just one of those bands where I can appreciate the aesthetic qualities that people like, but I just don't enjoy it.
Like, To Here Knows When is a very interesting song, and it's refreshing for about 10 seconds. Then I just think, okay shut the fuck up already. You made your point. |
Yep.
|
people think you're on crack or something if you say isn't anything is better.
|
I'm sort of surprised You're Living All Over Me didn't make the top five.
|
I listened to both of them before I actually knew anyone who listened to MBV. When I found out Loveless was the popular album I was completely baffled.
|
it's like the shoegaze dark side of the moon. except that dark side is 30 times better.

No, but they'd think you were if you said Lil John was better. |

Loveless bores me, Isn't Anything doesn't. Actually, speaking in real life (!) for a second, I know 4 people who like MBV and they all think Isn't Anything is way better. So, uhh... I dunno. |

Now speaking of overrated albums. |
Maybe it was all peer pressure, and Loveless is really the album everyone secretly likes less.
It's safe to come out, everyone! |

i have always admitted liking loveless less than isn't anything. |
Liking Dark Side is nothing to be either ashamed or proud of, it's just an album that I've never understood the appeal of. The millions of people who absolutely love it clearly puts me in the minority though.

yeah. i don't hold anything against anyone who doesn't like it, though, i mean, there's things that other people love as much as i love dark side and i don't necessarily agree with them.
|
I must admit though, i could never really trust anyone who didn't like the first Ramones album at least a little bit.

i hate them but liking polvo doesn't mean there's something wrong with you.

"heh Heh! No Weapons Of Mass Destruction In Here!"

Sorry, I'm so disappointed they didn't reach the top 20, I thought more people on this board really enjoyed their albums. I'm probably the only one who put Today's Active Lifestyles at the 2nd place. |

|
Oh, I'm mistaken, I put it at the 3rd place.

dude, that is like saying van gogh or monet should have FINISHED their paintings, instead of leaving them so "impressionistic" |
I sent in my top 5 and it was this,
1- beatles - beatles 2 - daydream nation - SY 3- yr living all over me - dinosaur 4- Are You Experienced? - Jimi 5- Hairway to steven - butthole surfers my top 3 made it in |
Any Sebadoh album, Rob ?
I'm surprised. |
nope. I picked my top 5 all time records
sebadoh's smash yr head on the punk rock would be top ten though for sure. so would Polvo's Exploded Drawing and Unwound's Fake Train |
As you want.
Do you still listen to the Beatles ? |

hell to the fuck yeah. that shit's timeless. I listen to the white album at least once a month, same with sgt pepers and ABBEY ROAD! plus I have around 10-13 beatles 7" singles. me and my friends learned how to write music from the beatles when we were all age 13-16. |
My votes were:
1. Pinkerton - Weezer 2. OK Computer - Radiohead 3. Sister - Sonic Youth 4. Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins 5. In Utero - Nirvana I didn't put much time into thinking about it, it was just off the top of my head. |
I've only heard Weezer's Buddy Holly. Is other stuff by them radically different from that?
|

that's the way to do it, if you want to go for what touches you the most in your deep special dark place.....:) |

Ah, ok. I don't have any problem with the Beatles, it 's just... not my generation. Sometimes I feel like a little dumbass for not liking the Classic rock (Beatles, Stones, ...). That's life. |

Haha yes it is. "Say It Ain't So", "Surf Wax America", "Only in Dreams", "Pink Triangle", "El Scorcho", etc...none of those sound anything like "Buddy Holly"! I wouldn't say it's a radical departure, I mean they all are just power pop songs, but they have a lot of varied stuff on those albums. Now when you get to the green album, that's when all the songs sound identical.
Weezer's first two albums are great. |
