there's loads and loads of stuff i enjoy but wouldn't spend money on, the scorpions' 'rock you like a hurricane', various G'n'R songs (although i do have appetite for destruction), some iron maiden, grateful dead, hell even bee gees songs and some disco,

i also really like abba and the beach boys, although i don't see why either should be seen as 'guilty pleasures' (and aren't really).

i'm not ashamed of anything i like now, once i would have been. I quite like the fact that in a day i will listen to crass and leonard cohen, burzum and abba- it makes things more exciting.

MellySingsDoom 07.25.2008 04:55 AM

^^^I like your music mix in yr last sentence, veganguy.

acousticrock87 07.25.2008 04:56 AM

Oh I like the Bee Gees, too. But that's partly for nostalgia reasons. Me and my roommate used to blast them driving around for food after midnight.

EDIT: No I just listened to some of their stuff again. It's totally cause I just plain love them.

vegans4veal 07.25.2008 05:03 AM

actually, i've only heard one grateful dead song, but i think it's one of my favourite songs EVAR...

the dead were awesome

acousticrock87 07.25.2008 05:05 AM

I've really never listened to them. I know a few of their more popular songs, but their discography is too intimidating.

vegans4veal 07.25.2008 05:06 AM

all the live versions of box of rain i've heard a fucking shit, why do people make such a big deal about them live?

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:06 AM

because of dark star.

acousticrock87 07.25.2008 05:08 AM

And acid...

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:09 AM

and every other drug available

believe me, there are deadheads in my family.

acousticrock87 07.25.2008 05:10 AM

Oh I know. There are deadheads in my family, too.

One of my earliest memories is my cousin (son of a deadhead) locking me in his room playing Friend of the Devil.

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:14 AM

once, we hadn't seen my uncle for a year or so.

and then the dead came to town.

and there he was on the news at the dead show.

Mostly Harmless 07.25.2008 05:38 AM

What's a good Grateful Dead album for a first-time listener, Cantankerous?

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:40 AM

american beauty

MellySingsDoom 07.25.2008 05:42 AM

Mostly Harmless - as choices 2 and 3, go for "Live/Dead" and "Anthem Of The Sun" - "Live/Dead" has a live version of "Dark Star" on it.

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:43 AM

the version of dark star on live/dead isn't that good
i've got a really good version and i don't know where it came from unfortunately

MellySingsDoom 07.25.2008 05:48 AM

I could use some decent Dead boots - you got any hints on particularly good ones?

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:49 AM

i'll have to go through them later today, i have a bunch on vinyl

i actually probably have more grateful dead records than i have of any other band.

Mostly Harmless 07.25.2008 05:49 AM

Thank you both for being so helpful.
It's hard to know where to start with with a huge, old legendary band with a huge, legendary discography.

Cantankerous 07.25.2008 05:53 AM

studio albums i reccommend:

workingman's dead
american beauty (start with this)
anthem of the sun
aoxomoxoa
