you WRITE music
you EDIT yr music to make it better if you do not you are just making up crap |
As far as rock music is concerned, the possibilities of any substantial growth or any progression in the ideas behind the music are slim to none. As a result, all the music I've heard in the past couple of years can only be described as tedious: trying to flush out every last idea that got it's beginnings twenty-thirty years ago. These days, the underground has this deconstructionalist attitude, which I'm not condemming, but I wonder if there is anything left to really deconstruct. It just seems that rock music has come to a standstill ideologically and as a result, it has become much less interesting. Granted, there are bands out there doing interesting things and modern bands that I really like, but all in all I think most things coming out nowadays are pretty boring. Comparatively, the 60s and 70s produced more interesting music because the artists during that time were actually pioneering new territory and were having to do it in a way that forced it to be somewhat accessible. As a result, you get records like Frank Zappa's We're Only it For the Money, which is faaar more interesting than anything that has come out this year.

god damn i am enjoying this thread and yeh Dj rick you posted a really good read
thanks |
I read a very interesting article about the divide between rock music, which used to be an amalgasm of traditionally "black" and traditionally "white" musics (blues, country, rockabilly, soul, folk, R&B), and what are now "black" msuics, like hip hops and current R&B/soul, dance.
The writer talks about how this leaves the underground of rock deeply sterile, and deeply boring. here is the link. The article is called THE RE-SEGREGATION OF ROCK N ROLL he also comments upon the impending death of rock and hip hop, for , in twenty to 40 years, the kids, the popular culture, will likely be listemning to music that in no way resembles the rock and hip hop of today, and there is really no way to guess what this will be like. very interesting stuff. http://www.the-american-interest.com...?Id=448&MId=20 |
