I'm just listening to 'Pink Triangle' on Youtube.
So you're telling me it sounds "nothing" like Buddy Holly? Like at all? |
I wouldn't say Pink Triangle sounds much like Buddy Holly. Maybe the fact that it's a very Weezer sounding song might make one think of Buddy Holly.
|
Obviously everything they do isn't the same song, but their style is pretty fuckin' consistent for the most part. I like them, but how you feel about Buddy Holly will pretty much determine how you feel about the band.

when I was 12, haydensache, I got abbey road and sgt peppers from a british lady that was my mom's boss and she gave me her original mono versions
I would listen to that shit endlessly for a metalheadbanger kid it was eye opening. when I got the white album I first heard a band and an album that was ALL OVER THE PLACE musically and it tickled my ears something else. it was fucking amazing. |
Very good summary, acousticrock. Some of their shit is drastically different, though. 'El Scorcho' and 'Across the Sea' come to mind. Even if everything sounds the same, it sounds pretty damn good.

I feel you. My friends mom turned me on to the Beatles when I was like 10. I was listening to Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan, Thursday, and other shit like that but I always had all the Beatles records ready to pop on at the right moment. Beatles kill. What does this have to do with Weezer, though? Is it just irrelevant? If so, sweet. |
Oh shit. I remember Dillinger and Thursday. Those were dark days.

I was so into that shit. Geoff's words were like my bible. I still dig on some of the early Thursday shit. Understanding In A Car Crash is an awesome song. |
Hayden Asche - I saw Converge in London a few weeks ago. They fucking killed, man. Still one of my fave live acts doing the rounds.
|
I can't say I dislike Thursday now, I mean it wasn't that long ago that I liked them, but I just can't listen to them anymore. It reminds me of other terrible music I listened to just 4 or 5 years ago.

Weird. Lately , I've been thinking of the Beatles as a band that has to be discovered when you're 5 to 10. Mainly because of the lyrics ( she loves you , love me do , I want to hold your hand ... lovely to love your loving! ). The music is also so childish and naive. |

Yeah, man! Converge is still the shit. One of the most unique acts around. |
I told you about the walrus and me, man
You know that we're as close as can be, man. Well here's another clue for you all, The walrus was Paul. Standing on the cast iron shore, yeah, Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet, yeah. Looking through a glass onion. |

Their version of "Homewrecker" made the Underworld erupt. I haven't been so fucking buzzed after seeing a gig in ages. |
when i saw converge, they made 45 minutes seem like 15.

abbey road, sgt peppers, and the white album and magical mystery tour are nothing like the bubblegum rock they played for the first 3-4 years. I don;t really listen to the early records. |

i didn't get into the beatles until i was about 21 or 22
|
same for me... well, around 20 i guess.

Right, so I'm just back from my holidays (very nice, thanks for asking) - obviously, it's a shit list, and in spite of the fact I doctored my vote to the albums I thought other people would vote for, none of my votes made it in.
Two things - Everyneurotic and Atsonicpark clearly didn't vote for ATR (or maybe voted for a different record) and thereby have internet curses in their curse-account (non-transferable). You pricks. Second - given that this is a SY board, any chance of a top 20 that doesn't feature SY releases? It's a fair bet to say that there was a very, very heavy SY-leaning to the voting. Also - I officially hate you all because the best album ever made, in objective standards, is the Shaggs' philosophy of the world. Cunts. It's not my favourite album ever, but it is the best. You see? |
I was torn as to whether the list should exclude SY albums or not. In the end I thought it fairer to include them simply because I do believe that if someone really thinks DDN is the greatest album in the world then they should be able to vote for it. More regrettable was the lack of a single non-rock based album in the 20, or one made outside of America or the UK.

if i wasn't lazy i'd organise some votes on best metal, best hiphop, best jazz, best electronic... etc. |
I'm looking forward to the best lower-case improv vote, and the tension surrounding the micro-house thread is palpable.
|
Well, three out of five of my selections made it...
The White Album, VU & Nico, and White Light/White Heat... Sister was in my top 10 but as we know only 5 were allowed... the beatles - the beatles vu & nico rubber soul white light/white heat rolling stones - let it bleed revolver sy - sister r.e.m. - reckoning bob dylan - bringin' it all back home rolling stones - sticky fingers |
that's a very good list, but i'm surprised that Goo, Experimental, Dirty, and Washing Machine didn't make the top 20
|
Well that's because it's the twenty greatest albums off all time not the twenty greastest SY records.
|
|
there was no pavement on that was there?
how odd. |
Isn't it ?
