The ending was tedious to read.

Salinger's kind of boring. Then again, who am I to talk? I adore wordy folks like Updike and Nabokov.

Salinger's greatest achievement still is The Catcher in the Rye.

I felt like I need to read Nine Stories too to get the whole spectrum of events.

I like Salinger. He takes an extremely long timeline, breaks off one seemingly insignificant, albeit an interesting, portion and writes a book on it. You get the feeling that a better story could have been written about things that happened before or after the book's story. I know that makes it sound bad, but I actually like a lackluster story, as long as it was meant to be so.

Yeah, I've only read Catcher but I think you could say that about that book. For example what happens after the end, he's clearly had a break down but how does it turn out for him, like school etc. Of course I know it's better not to know and the point of the book would be lost and true writers don't write books as if they could tell you what happened afterwards.

I finished Fight Club. It was okay, I didn't care for the writing style too much.

I read "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane" and 100 pages of Good Omens today. Good Omens is great. Think Hitchhikers' Guide except dealing with angels, demons, and the end of the world.

i dislike the art, but fuck if it isn't good writing-- for comics, it's way above average

Incidentally, Good Omens is co-written by Neil Gaiman. You might like it.

ah! what a coincidence. on top of that a friend of mine is reading some gaiman novels. i didnt know the guy was a writer-- you know, without pictures (ha). i'll make a note of that, thanks! (and sorry, tried repping, but no luck)

I just finished Crime and Punishment on Monday, and I started in on The Count Of Monte Cristo last night. To make a switch like this takes almost a major overhaul of the mind. While Crime and Punishment makes you think, The Count of Monte Cristo simply entertains. Which is fine by me; it's nice to have a break once in a while and just read a great story.

I will be starting The Hobbit tonight probably.

I read The Zoo Story by Edward Albee. Good play.

Just started The Brothers Karamazov. Standard fare, so far.

I didn't start the Hobbit, although I did read one Sherlock Holmes short story and finish Good Omens (170 pages in about 5 hours). I highly recommend it to fans of the Hitchhiker's Guide series or those that just like humorous books that don't take themselves too seriously.
