Me either. I'm still underwhelmed by most of The Eternal (there's still SOME great stuff on there) but this has rekindled my interest in the band in a huge way. Thanks for the info, Chris. So, for those of us who are still waiting on our pre-orders, IS Mark on this?... |
To me suprise I got mine already yesterday! All I can say is that it is very very very great record!!! At least as great as SYR1, SYR2, SYR3 and SYR7! It´s amazing how SY can make still so beautiful and fine music!

where did you get it? |
Well folks, picked up my copy on wax today from Avalanche records in Edinburgh. Glad I held out as it occurred to me that with SYR4 onwards, I have always bought the physical item from a physical store around about the time it was released, and I enjoy this ritual.
Listened to it once, first impressions are varied and subject to change, so maybe I shouldn't elaborate on them. Ah but what the hell, OK I will. Parts of it seem really great, lush, seductive. But at times it seems like they aren't too sure of themselves, or are just kicking out generic Sonic jams. Like they are not sure what they are doing, and not in an interesting or inspiring way, more like a tired way, like they are tired. As I say, first impressions, I do hope these will change. But certainly this record has made nowhere near the monumental impression on me that the likes of SYR3, 6 or 7 made upon me at first. |
the CD bonus track seems related to 'basement contender', from mix tape 7...so i do wonder when it was recorded (as that was an eternal demo), recently w/ jim or an archive piece w. a similar riff...

To me Eternal and Syr9 is not same kind of accompanion as EVOL and Made In Usa. In my opinion only Alice et Simon in Syr9 reminds the Eternal and in Eternal the end of Anti-orgasm, Antenna, the middle of Malibu gas, Walkin Blue and Massage has something in common with SYR9 (but not sounding, to me the Eternal sounds very typical protools production and Syr9 much more analogsounding, especially drums). The Eternal is much more rock-oriented as SYR 9 (I have said to my friends that for example Anti-orgasm, What we known, poison arrow, Calming the snake, Thunderclap and no way sounded much more Stooges as Stooges in Weirdness-album). If there´s some albums to compare, I think it is SYR1 and ATL. But if ATL is a big wooden old house, then SYR9 is that house that is changed into big old castle! Somehow there´s also something new in SYR9 although it sounds very much SY. That´s the big reason why I like SY so much! |

Got it from FNAC - there's a link earlier in the thread. By the way, it's not eleven minutes of music on the bonus CD, it's ten. Ten very good minutes though. |
