the venue in Hasselt (Belgium) where Lee played last week also claims that CLM will be there somewhere in Autumn of this year. So there will also be another Euro tour.

To me the key to the longevity of this band is if Thurston can unleash Samara's creativity-she's very inspired

And as an FYI (though most in the area probably know) - the Supercrawl is a giant-multi-day event in Hamilton (used to be called the Art Crawl) - and it's a free event, which includes the musical performances... so, free Thurston.

Would be crazy for me but a possibility... seeing CLM three days in a row, Buffalo, Hamilton & Toronto.

RanaldoNecro 07.06.2013 09:13 AM

Make sure you do it wearing a THB shirt!

I just saw Chelsea Light Moving gig here in Helsinki. It was great, although drummer probably had a hangover. They played three new songs: Sunday Stage, No Go & Ecstasy. Set included also Burroughs, Groovy & Linda, Empires of Time, Lip, Frank O'Hara Hit, Sleeping Where I Fall and Alighted. Encore was Staring Statues...

Yeah, they were very raw & great, specially Thurston! The whole rest band seem to me a little bit tired, they warmed up in the middle of the set. Anyway it was very great to see them alive!

Haven't been keeping a close eye on the recent setlists, so not sure if this is the first time they played them, but they played one or two new songs (as in not on the CLM album). One of them had the lyrics of this poem

Look out for a splendid recording soon :)
it may take a few weeks though, so be patient

:D first Lee tomorrow  and the day after! :D

Patiently waiting... hopefully you have a WeTransfer-link too whenever you are ready ;-)

oops sorry, it's taking some longer time due to summer laziness (and buziness when I'm not lazy). But recordings by another taper of CLM in Antwerp and Lee in Hasselt were already shared on Dime. I'll give those the Wetransfer treatment and share the links on the Sonic Youth live recordings (lossless only!!!) thread later tonight.
Don't think those were posted yet right?

thx tunic, I already have the other recordings but really would love to hear yours because your Lee Ranaldo-recording from last year @ Trix was great. But don't worry, I'll keep checking until you find some time for sharing it. No rush ;-)

halgreen 11.04.2013 01:02 PM

Bumping an old thread, but I 'm going see Chelsea Light Moving in New Orleans tonight. Doubt there is anyone from New Orleans on here but you never know...
It's also going to be my first time seeing a Sonic member so I'm very excited!

halgreen 11.05.2013 10:56 AM

The show was awesome! I got right in the front so I could be in front of T and it was great. A bunch of CLM songs, including The Ecstasy and Sunday Stage. They closed with Ono Soul which definitely fulfilled my need for extended jam.
They had a bunch of cool T-shirts, an Ecstatic Peace poetry zine, a collection of John Moloney's artwork. They had a Sunburned cassette, which I snagged, I think its new but I can't be sure. They also had cassette and CD versions of "Banjaxed Blues", as well as some other Caught on Tape releases, various releases by Thurston, and cassette split with Merchandise with Chelsea Light Moving songs called gas tongue, solar cinema, punk professor, record scum, and brat patrol.
Great night overall. I probably looked like an escaped patient when I tried to talk to Thurston but he was very cool. John Moloney was also very nice, and let me talk to him for a few minutes. Merchandise was great too...

Chris Lawrence 11.05.2013 11:19 PM

So there's a tape with new CLM songs?

halgreen 11.05.2013 11:26 PM

Yep, haven't listened to it yet though. My tape deck comes in tomorrow hopefully.

Can it be ordered online, this thing? I gotta have it. Gotta ROCK it. Gotta JAM IT.

halgreen 11.06.2013 05:17 PM

I'm not sure. I haven't seen anything on discogs about it, but I'm sure some will pop up eventually.

As far as I know, only the "Heavenmetal"/"Communist Eyes" seven-incher that comes with the LP edition of CLM. But both those songs are part of the CD version, of course.

No copies for sale at the moment, though.

Blue Human 12.10.2013 01:51 PM

There have been, I bagged one earlier. Be vigilant!

Chris Lawrence 12.11.2013 09:19 PM

Hey everyone, I'm gonna be posting Last Night on Earth tabs pretty soon and want to get Chelsea Light Moving ones up too. I haven't seen CLM live, is T generally just using one gtr/tuning or what? Any info (or tabs if you got em) would be appreciated...thanks!

halgreen 12.11.2013 10:54 PM

He used the same guitar the whole time I saw him last month. Same tuning I'm sure, but no idea what that could be.
But he was using his signature Fender.

Chris Lawrence 12.12.2013 01:21 AM

Awesome, thanks! Must be CGDGBB...?

halgreen 12.12.2013 01:46 AM

Is that his normal solo tuning? Does such a thing even exist?

Chris Lawrence 12.12.2013 01:58 AM

He borrowed it from Pavement for the Psychic Hearts material (Malkmus's tuning is actually CGDGBE, so Thurston added the unison Bs). All of Psychic Hearts is in that tuning. Most of A Thousand Leaves is, too. Then he used a modified version of that for the 2000s.

Anyway, the intro to Burroughs is the open B strings, so I think that settles that!

halgreen 12.12.2013 02:07 AM

That makes sense. He played Ono Soul when I saw him with CLM with the same guitar

i wish i could join this debate, but unfortunately i can't. its never too late to learn chords and all this tuning stuff. right now, this topic is one big mystery for me.
