Greatest Political Figure of the 20th Century?

Just watched a doc on the BBC which had a load of experts debating this. They finally settled on Winston Churchill, but being a British programme it's hard to judge how biased their final decision was.

Not what I would call "the greatest," but I would have to say the most significant political figure of the 20th century was Hitler.

Churchill is not at all a bad choice.
I would love that kind of wit and charisma, but I could do without the jowls.

i'd say gandhi, who gave the empire the finger & showed the world the way.

then there's lenin. the XX century was define by communism and fascism, and communism lasted longer. also, stalin killed way more people than hitler. while lenin did not rule for very long, his revolution set huge events in motion.

Ronald Reagan.

For returning the inherent decency of the white race back into America.

'You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to pbradley again.'

I would agree with Gandhi though, good call.

SynthethicalY 10.25.2007 09:42 PM

No, he was an honest man.

I would also say Salinas de Gortari for stealing the money and fleeing the country.

Jimmy Carter for his contributions to the farming industry.

m1rr0r dash 10.25.2007 10:01 PM

in all seriousness, robert oppenheimer had a bigger impact on politics in the second half of the twentieth century than anyone else.

Well in America Jerry Falwell had an impact on the politics in America. We are still feeling the effects now.

Silent Dan Speaks 10.25.2007 10:40 PM

I think FDR needs a mention in this.
