http://www.tourismethiopia.org/
thiopia a Tourist Paradise Ethiopia is truly a land of contrasts and extremes; a land of remote and wild places. Some of the highest and most stunning places on the African continent are found here, such as the jaggedly carved Simien Mountains, one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites - and some of the lowest, such as the hot but fascinating Danakil Depression, with its sulphur fumaroles and lunar-like landscape. Ethiopia is old; old beyond all imaginations. As Abyssinia, its culture and traditions date back over 3,000 years. And far earlier than that lived "Lucy" or Dinkenesh, meaning 'thou art wonderful', as she is known to the Ethiopians, whose remains were found in a corner of this country of mystery and contrasts.

Many people visit Ethiopia - or hope to do so one day - because of the remarkable manner in which ancient historical traditions have been preserved. And, indeed, the ceremonies and rituals of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, open a window on the authentic world of the Old Testament. In no other country is it possible to find yourself so dramatically transported back in time or to participate with such freedom in the sacred rituals of an archaic faith.

you know i also said recently i wasn't ready to leave the united states on a long term basis but right now i really wanna get the fuck out of here for some reason.

RdTv 03.31.2008 10:56 PM

I don't blame you, the US is stale, its dull and the majority of ''American'' culture is centered around passing time by occupying yourself with boredom.

Cantankerous 03.31.2008 10:58 PM

i know, it's ridiculous here. to my credit i'm not just sitting here with my thumbs up my ass, i'm actually doing important shit (or at least shit that isn't trivial) while i'm on here.

Travel is the best education. I don't know who first said that, but it is undyingly true.

Cantankerous 03.31.2008 11:04 PM

if i inherit that apartment on the upper west side i won't have to pay rent anymore (it being paid for and whatnot..) and then i can travel as much as i want to and always come back and actually LIVE in new york
and having a paid for apartment would mean that i could have a second apt/flat/house/whatever in the UK which would make things so much easier

but i completely agree that travel is the best education, provided you don't go on a fucking guided tour.

RdTv 03.31.2008 11:14 PM

I've always felt differently about travel and touring, like I was alone on the issue, like my way was the only one that existed and no book or film or song has ever come close to sharing my feelings on the matter. That is until I read ''The Sheltering Sky'' by Paul Bowles. Easily one of the greatest books I've ever read and COMPLETELY shared my sentiment on traveling. For what its worth, if you haven't read it I would highly recommend it.

Everyneurotic 03.31.2008 11:16 PM

i'd love to tour in another country.
