'Merica

"Helms was known as "Senator No" for his staunch opposition to an array of liberal causes, including affirmative action, funding for the arts, gay rights, and a holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."

"He likened abortion to the Holocaust and the Sept. 11 terror attacks."

terriblecanyons 07.04.2008 11:12 AM

What a dickhead. Good riddance.

This Is Not Here 07.04.2008 12:27 PM

Ha ha, I like the title of this thread. No "Jesse Helms has passed on" just Jesse Helms = Dead". ha! I don't know much about him not being of the American persuasion, however the brief paragraph on the link makes him sound like a shit. "He battled liberals" so I may just have to throw my sandals at his corpse.

Anngella 07.04.2008 12:32 PM

lolz @ teh bias
Although he may have been an asshole (by the standards of anyone who is liberal), on the contrary if Bill Maher would've died I know at least some of you would be disappointed.
Although I don't know anything about him other than what was posted, just sayin'.

I don't celebrate the death of any human being...something about my
fathers death made me a little more sensitive to it all. Surely the fucker
had people in his life who will find his passing sad.

That said, I applaud the death of hate and narrow-minded philosophies.

Jesse Helms retired in 1997. An old man died, just an old man.

Yes, but not every "old man" got to be one of the most destructive and backward influences in the US government for many, many years.

greedrex 07.04.2008 03:59 PM

he looks (looked) like the equivalent of our very own Jean-Marie Le Pen!!

these fuckers need to die, like really quickly.

Yeah, I shouldn't have opinions I guess.
Come to think of it, we should really elect more people to high office who refer to the University of North Carolina as the 'University of Niggers and Communists.'"

He stopped being destructive eleven years ago.

Savage Clone 07.04.2008 04:03 PM

Believe me, I was pleased when he retired.
Just because he's deceased now doesn't mean he didn't spend most of his life pushing a ridiculous agenda whose policies will outlive his earthly life, and that people don't get to call attention to that for fear of seeming "insensitive."
