how much time do we spend on here?

i realise this should be a poll but i am at work and havnt got the energy to do all that.

so due to the amount of intervention related posts i am asking how much time you spend on here and do you think its too much?

personally i am on here at work, which does limit the amount of posting i can do and also i am on here in the evenings in between doing everything else.

Savage Clone 04.10.2006 08:41 AM

Too much, lately.

Hip Priest 04.10.2006 08:45 AM

I don't sleep well, so I go online for about two or three hours at night. I can also log on at work (as I am now). Whilst online I always keep an eye on a couple of forums.

I think it's okay. It's my friends who spend 20 hours a week playing World of Warcraft, then go on the WOW forums, listen to the WOW radio stations and then spend all their non-WOW time talking about WOW that concern me.

A lot. At least 5 hours a day.

Like Hip Priest, I don't sleep well either, so when I wake in the middle of the night, I sometimes browse the forum. I'm also on at insane hours of the morning before I go running. And I'm on at work.

So in answer to the question, way more than is healthy.

jon boy 04.10.2006 09:09 AM

perhaps there should be some kind of support group for those of us that spend an unhealthy amount on here.

Well...also more than is healthy but I don't have problems sleeping so no night browsing at least. I'm another who can access the internet at work which is a dangerous thing indeed. I check a few forums and also think of stuff to check out on wikipedia because wiki is great. Also, thanks to Hip Priest, I check newscientist.com a hell of a lot.

Funny, I know a few people who play WOW pretty heavily. One has just given up and is trying to sell his character on ebay.

truncated 04.10.2006 09:13 AM

Yeah, and who's going to run it, someone else from the board? Haha

truncated 04.10.2006 09:19 AM

I know someone who's like that with Second Life, to the point where he spends actual money on a regular basis to buy virtual 'property.' Then again, he also makes real money off of building virtual objects on that game, so maybe he's the smart one.

!@#$%! 04.10.2006 09:23 AM

hah hah

too much time here lately

but it beats tv-- and you can do this while listening to records

jon boy 04.10.2006 09:26 AM

if you spend real money on virtual property then you really have got to go to a support group.

Grete 04.10.2006 09:37 AM

uhm too much, but it's so nice this forum;-)

Iain 04.10.2006 10:23 AM

What is Second Life?

Anyway, my friend doesn't spend actual money on virtual objects or anthing. Not that it makes it any better. We worked out the other day that he has spent at least the same sort of hours on the game per week as you would in a part time job over the last 14 months.

samuel 04.10.2006 10:45 AM

Usually I'm on once a day,
some days I don't get on though.

Wow. Now that's dedication.

Second Life is a virtual reality game that's intriguing for its technical capabilities and graphics, but there's not really much to 'do' on there. I tried it out for a bit - you create an identity on there and can get jobs, own property, open businesses, build homes, etc. It gets dull really quickly unless you know how to build virtual objects and/or use Photoshop, both of which I am far too technologically retarded for.

It's all free unless you decide to get obsessive and buy all kinds of property and virtual goods. There are people that buy islands for $1000, or pay over $200 per month in membership fees. INSANITY.

I think I own a tavern on there haha. But I haven't logged onto it in months.

Sounds like something for rich, bored virgins.

fishmonkey 04.10.2006 11:45 AM

i'm like Hip Priest, i go on at night at home and during work ... except now they are claamping donw on internet usage in work and i'll gonna get my ass kicked for it but fuck it.

And pedophiles.

Seriously, that place is a haven for fetishists. It literally traumatized me.

Iain 04.10.2006 11:58 AM

OH right...that must be the game that you hear about people buying Islands for $10,000 and stuff like that I imagine. It's sort of fascinating how people are starting to live half their lives inside virtual worlds essentially. Not exactly the kind of future that was predicted for virtual reality. If people can get into stuff that much through just a screen, imagine what will happen if and when those VR helmet things actually become a practial reality.

We are heading into a seriously fucked up world of Phil Dickian reality blurring if we're not careful. I mean there were a few people who actually died because they were gaming nonstop for a few days and forgot to drink water....seriously fucked.

Savage Clone 04.10.2006 11:59 AM

I'll steer clear.
It takes a lot to actually traumatize me, though definite damage was done by seeing Joanna Newsom and Coco Rosie. I'm still in anger management sessions after those shows.
