First day of the football season:

Comments here.

farmhouse 08.11.2007 01:42 PM

top half of the season kicks off tomorrow, so i'll perk up then.

however, stevie g. has done my fantasy team score wonders with that late strike, and, no doubt, by taking the man of the match spoils.

West Ham did look somewhat dire in places, but I didn't think they were entirely without hope. Passing was dreadful, but they seemed to cross quite well when they got forward. Unfortunately some very clear chances went well off target - the game could easily have been a draw, I reckon.

I thought we were alright, especially considering we fielded a load of players who have barely spoken to each other, and don't yet share a common language anyway. Sven seems to have avoided signing a load of duff players or paying for players who are in their last season. Everyone looked good, including our own acadamy players.

Elano was probably our star, along with Scmeichel, but it was good to see the new striker score on his debut. Anyone who can put 19 past the best defences in the world in Serie A must have something good about them. Hopefully today was the first goal of many.

fishmonkey 08.12.2007 05:51 AM

i waiting for todays games really, myself and my die-hard chelsea buddy will be in the pub for his match and then for mine. god damm i missed the premiership, all i had to keep me going these past 80 days was fuckin GAA which if you live in ireland will know is a piece of shit.

Danny Himself 08.12.2007 01:01 PM

The fact that the Manchester United emblem has a depiction on Lucifer in the center of it really sums up the whole side.

Danny Himself 08.12.2007 06:33 PM

Man City played spectacularly today.

Danny Himself 08.12.2007 07:16 PM

Oh, yeah. Yesterday.

PAULYBEE2656 08.18.2007 05:21 AM

first manager sacked... martin jol, if we dont kick derbys ass....
first striker to become a primadonna... berbatov. he needs a slapping!
first team to hit rock bottom... spurs. the only way is up!

teams most impressed me this year so far... newcastle, man city, everton.

teams i still wish for no good to happen to them as always.. "man" utd, chelski and the arse! also west ham if they were any good!!!

Pookie 08.18.2007 06:14 AM

Come on you Blue Boys!!!

I'm so looking forward to seeing those scousers having their "history" shoved up their arses...

sonicl 08.18.2007 07:04 AM

Demonrail: What are your thoughts on the signing of Craig Bellamy? Do The Hammers really need a player on board whose main feature is his skill at spreading dischord throughout the dressing room? Or will Curbishley somehow work miracles with him?

Pookie 08.18.2007 07:22 AM

Personally, I think Bellamy will bring pace and a high work rate to the forward line. He has pace to spare and can operate on the wing if required on occasion. He is not what you would call prolific but he'll probably get 12-15 goals.

demonrail666 08.18.2007 08:40 AM

I rate Bellamy as a player, but have to worry about the fact he's in a team that also includes Bowyer and Dyer. All we need is Robbie Savage and we can start auditioning for a Slap Shot remake.

Loads of rumours amomngst West Ham fans about Curbs future. Scolari's been mentioned, but I say give him at least until xmas.

Either way we need to do a lot better against Birmingham.

Could definitely do with this fella this afternoon:

Meh, I think he's a half decent sweeper, but can't commit enough. He's had his moments, but they're fewer and furtherer between. I would give my left nut to see him pull it out of the bag, but I don't think his determination alone will win on the day. I just think it's a shame that one team has to lose.

Pookie 08.18.2007 09:46 AM

Been a Melchester Rovers fan, man and boy. When watching Italian football, I always root for AC Monza.

No, that was Di Prat. Do keep up Pookie, please.

If satanism is your game, then good luck with that.

The Liver Bird is a mythical bird that protects the city of Liverpool- it's been on seals and flags associated with the city for almost 800 years now. It made absolute sense to put it on the team logo.

Inhuman 08.18.2007 08:52 PM

Football/ Soccer seems to be really big in England, and Football (just football) seems big in the US. We don't usually pay attention to those too much in Canada...just hockey.

Crosby!

Against an absolutely dire Derby side. That's £40 million well spent then.

Our first real test today - away to Blackburn. The sort of game we were throwing away last season. I just hope that no one falls for Savage's wind-ups.

demonrail666 08.19.2007 08:33 AM

It was obvious Spurs were gonna pick things up eventually, still don't see you breaking into the top 4 though, as had been predicted.

Man City up against Utd. Nice one.

Don't mess with the Egg.

Nice one!

I've always really liked City. It must be that big city team thing, always in the shadow of more famous rivals.

Don't mess with the Scandi Mafia.

1970. We were quite good in 1970.

Great win for us today, even if the other team seemed to have the better of the game. But there's only one statistic that matters, and the scoreboard says

1-0.

sonicl 08.19.2007 01:13 PM

I'll just pop my head out from where I'm hiding to say:

Nice one, City!

Hip, I'm delighted for you. Have a glass of cider on me.

I'm going back into hiding now, I'm trying to avoid discussion of Liverpool v Chelsea. I didn't see it, but I have a feeling the scousers was robbed.

Big time.

Florya 08.19.2007 03:35 PM

I reckon Jens Lehman needs to spend more time with his grandchildren and less doddering about in the Arsenal goal. 2 games, 2 goals against. Both through fuck-ups by the crazy German.

demonrail666 08.19.2007 04:31 PM

I wouldn't trust Jens Lehman with any kids. He might drop them.

Crumb's Crunchy Delights 08.19.2007 04:37 PM

And good on you. I listened to the match on Radio Five Live and then saw the goals on Match of the Day. What an absolutely sickening display of refereeing. I hope, and well, I assume, that the Mr. Stiles suffered grievous bodily harm when leaving Anfield this evening. Absolutely shit. If anybody thinks Finnan fouled in that decision they are seriously mentally retarded. Also, what was with Lampard's absurd celebration antics? It was a fucking penalty- standard stuff- he should have hung his head low in shame for taking a win from Liverpool's hands through such dire consequences. I hate that weasel even more than I did before- that greasy cockney twat.

On a brighter note, Torres! It was nice to see him get his first goal, and what a goal it was. There were some fine attempts from Babel and Riise too. Kuyt played well.

I'm also pretty happy that Man U lost today also. After slagging off Sven in the papers yesterday, I bet Fergie feels like a right knob tonight.

Florya 08.20.2007 10:36 AM

I know it's not much consolation but Stiles has been dropped for a week after his bizarre decisions on Sunday.

I think that he must be the only person in the country that didn't think he was showing a second yellow to Essien.

you know what, the referees chief spokesman or something was on the radio today explaining that he'd called Benitez and apologised, and that Rob Stiles would be apologising to him too. Doesnt happen every time a ref or linesman gets something catastrophically wrong (See Pedro Mendes' goal that never was against Man U at Old Trafford a couple of years ago)
