The one I love to love is the great Duel by Propaganda, from 1984.

porkmarras 01.31.2007 06:36 PM

Right now it's Belle And Sebastain's 'Lazy Line Painter Jane'.

I use to have a serious crush on Claudia Brücken, for some strange reason. Good choice with Duel.

I'd heard that Claudia had done something with Glen Gregory of HEaven 17, but I don't know if that's true.

She did something last year with Andy Bell (of Erasure) - I think it was a couple of duets on an LP of his. I've never heard it though.

That MES stuff would be much appreciated.

You know, my two teenage pop crushes were two of ZTT's artists at that time; from Propaganda I much preferred Suzanne Freytag, second from right:

The other one was the very nice Anne Pigalle:

^That's another one of my favourite singles ever.

Tokolosh 02.01.2007 06:49 AM

I still keep track(stalk) Claudia here

Hip Priest 02.01.2007 06:50 AM

Is she still married to PAul Morley, do you know?

I think Suzanne went back to being a jeweler.

Hip Priest 02.01.2007 06:51 AM

The excellent 12" of Duel:

jon boy 02.01.2007 06:52 AM

whatever happened to ya kid k?

Hip Priest 02.01.2007 06:53 AM

What is ya kid k? Is that someone's name?

jon boy 02.01.2007 06:54 AM

this beat is technotronic featuring ya kid k. do you remember? it was really funny totaly 80's shit.

The most recent interview i've read of her(1 week ago)says that she has met an english guy 12 years ago and fell in love with him and London. The band with the Heaven 17 dude is on and the single is being played in clubs + i've read a couple reviews saying that it is an ace slice of electropop.

Hip Priest 02.01.2007 06:56 AM

I remember Technotronic.

That's a shame about the marriage. Paul Morley is still a very cool bloke in my opinion. Reading his sleeve notes for ZTT at the time did helped to increase my thirteen-year-old vocabulary.

I'll have to try and listen to both of the collaborations.

Tokolosh 02.01.2007 07:17 AM

You can add Closing to that. It's a short version (approx 1'30" from memory) that kicks off the auperb compilation ZTT Sampled, and features Morley uttering the words 'spanner in the works'.

Tokolosh 02.01.2007 07:35 AM

Didn't know that Paul Morley was also credited with steering the marketing and promotion of the phenomenal early success of ZTT's biggest act, Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Hip Priest 02.01.2007 07:41 AM

Paul Morley and Trevor Horn controlled everything. It was a source of discontent, and was why the Art of Noise left ZTT. Shame they did, because thier subsequent releases were bland as a result.

Morley wrote all of the extensive sleeve notes that accompanied ZTT releases at the time.

Tokolosh 02.01.2007 07:42 AM

Interesting.
This thread is giving me the urge to make a synthpop tokomix.

Trasher02 02.01.2007 02:42 PM
