The best of the best of the best 2013
If I were to round off the year by buying one more LP which would you recommend I buy.
It has to be an original record released this year and it has to be absolutely SHITHOTESSENTIALLISTEN. Hanx |
Satanic Rockers - Fu Kung

Ok, this is how it's looking right now:
The best record of 2013 is..... Three way tie!!! (Non-hip hop) Black Bug - Reflecting the Light Fuck Buttons - Slow Focus Botany - Lava Diviner (true story) --- Hip Hop: Since everyone knows about Yeezus, and 12 Reasons to Die, and My Name is my Name, I'm gonna say: Doley Bernays - Just In Case Underachievers- Indigoism Because both of these excellent albums have been victims of hip-hop fandom's three-second attention span, and have not received proper credit. |

My recommendation would be Lubomyr Melnyk. His Corollaries album is brilliant. But you have to experience him live to fully grasp his brilliance.
Something I've never done before, I instantly bought all of his albums (nearly 20) that have been released on his own label. But if you want to start with just one, get the Windmills album for double piano, which was also released this year. |

Body/Head.
|
Body/Head is definitely going to appear in my top ten, but I'd never call it the best of the year.
I'm still torn between Fuck Buttons, Botany and Black Bug. The Lips are also really making a grab for my top spot. Maybe it's just because their album was an underrated, misunderstood masterpiece, and I feel like it should be someone's #1. |
Endless Boogie - Long Island

I've been enjoying Dylan Nyoukis - Acrylic Window LP, which sounds like it contains bits of his set when he opened for Body/Head at Cafe Oto last year.
