demonrail666 02.23.2007 08:14 AM

Are you a 'Rock 'n' Roll' person, or a 'Rock' person?

These are the questions I ask myself late at night.

Me? I'm a Rock 'n' Roll person, but if you asked me to define exactly what Rock 'n' Roll is, I wouldn't have a clue.

sonicl 02.23.2007 08:17 AM

I'm rock. To me, "Rock 'n' Roll" suggests a lifestyle choice, to be as wild as possible as much of the time as possible. Rock just suggests liking rock music.

porkmarras 02.23.2007 08:18 AM

If i asked myself questions of this kind,i'd stop being myself and 'force' myself to be something that i'm not.

sonicl 02.23.2007 08:20 AM

Just answer the question, Porky. Are you "Rock", or are you "Rock and R-o-o-o-o-o-o-ll!!!"?

porkmarras 02.23.2007 08:22 AM

Who do you think you are?Is the internet yours?

Actually, yes, the internet is mine. I've just put it out on loan to the rest of the world, but I could easily take it back if people mistreat it.

How very self-important of you.Anyway,i've never really thought about it, which,i suppose, makes me rock n roll or whatever.

king_buzzo 02.23.2007 08:26 AM

i dont really consider myself a proper 'rock' person. i like experimenting with diferent styles and stuff as well

Grunge must give a lot of room for experimantation.

demonrail666 02.23.2007 08:31 AM

Porkmarras is showing nuff love today!

screamingskull 02.23.2007 08:33 AM

i think of Rock and Roll as being Elvis and the 1950's, and Rock as being bands like the foo's and greenday.
I hate what indie music is in england at the moment. so i guess the label i most identify with is Grunge.

I can't beleive that you go through life with you head in the sand regarding the "rock or rock 'n' roll" issue. Suffragettes chained themselves to the railings outside Abbey Road studios to make sure that you got the right to consider matters like that, and you just throw it in their faces!

The first thing I do every morning when I wake up is thank my lucky stars that I live in a society where we can choose between being rock and being rock 'n' roll.

demonrail666 02.23.2007 08:37 AM

KRRRRGGGGHHHHH- The sound of Screamingskull being dragged kicking and, er, screaming into the 21st century.

Emo all the fucking way!

PPPPPPPLLLLLLLEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEE

emo will die as quickly as new metal did. If you can define what sonic youth is in a style be it indie or experimental or avant garde then i will identify with that instead of grunge.

Good for them.I sat on the grave of one of them and i have no remorse. And,anyway, why are you slipper-wearing,pipe-smoking posho telling me all this?

sonicl 02.23.2007 08:48 AM

I am telling you this because I understand that not all people have had the opportunities to be eductaed at England's finest establishments, and so may not be aware of the important events of our country's history.

And I do not wear slippers. I have a servant whose sole pleasure in life is carrying me around my mansion and blowing warm air on my feet when they get chilly.

How exquisitively interesting to find out about that ,Sir Sonicl of Pompoushire. Now, do you take sugar in your tea before i accidentally drop a little surprise into your cup and give it to you to drink it?

musicfallinglikesnow 02.23.2007 09:04 AM

"Despite all the amputations / You could dance to a rock'n'roll station..."
Yes my life was saved by rock'n'roll too. Sonic Youth could be also rock'n'roll, yes why not? I'm used to think of rock'n'roll as avant-garde in general. In the fifties, rock'n'roll was avant-garde in a sense, of being leading the future.
Oh what the heck!

I am rock. I rock harder than anyone I know. I am klnown for my rock. I will rock you. I will rock out to undefined and never before attained heights of self rock.
I am rock n roll. I love the blues and the swing and the jazz and the ROLL so I am rock n roll.
I am punk rock in the gay faux beatnik way as aell as in the doc marten in yr face way and in the fuck you fuck you way and I am also hardcore in the noise way for I so love the rock that I gave my only begotten son for sacrifice so we could all rock carefree.

LittlePuppetBoy 02.23.2007 04:42 PM

I say no more

Trasher02 02.23.2007 05:17 PM

I'd say I'm a rock person cause rock 'n' roll sounds more like elvis or something.

I think Wesley Willis wrote this.

Rob Instigator 02.23.2007 05:45 PM

wheaties, breakfast of champions

Onani Nic 02.23.2007 07:48 PM

Rock Over London,
Rock On Chicago.
Timex takes a licking but keeps on ticking.

Rock or Rock'n'Roll? I'm more soft rock/new wave.

noumenal 02.23.2007 08:09 PM

Rock 'n' roll was for my grandparents.

Rock was for my parents.

This is what I get:

thewall91 02.23.2007 11:54 PM

i think of just about anything that isn't pop or hip-hop, reggae, etc., as rock. i agree with the fact that when i hear the words "rockn'roll" i think of the old "she loves you" era beatles and elvis, but i think at the root of it sonic youth is a rockn'roll band as well. maybe not the 'n'roll part, but rock none the less. anything with heavy guitars can qualify for me. i could care less about all the subgenres. grunge is rock. most indie is rock, except the whiny stuff (is that what this "emo" i keep hearing about is? i haven't a clue)

if i had to qualify who i am as either rockn'roll or rock, my subgenre would be the "i fucking rock" subgenre.

Confusion is Dante 02.24.2007 09:10 PM

To answer the question.........I am neither rock and roll, nor rock....
I think I have a much higher self opinion of myself than to label myself as a 'rock' person, or a 'rock and roll' person.
I am an amazingly awesome person.......and that's all I can really say.

Savage Clone 02.24.2007 09:57 PM

Diesel is more "rock an' yaar."

noumenal 02.24.2007 10:15 PM

sorry dude

it's not real though, I don't think

when I first joined the old board I got in trouble with that pic

I never realized how a litle pic of fake shit could offend so much

ZEROpumpkins 02.24.2007 10:22 PM

Kinda of an odd question. I kinda see what you are saying.

terminal pharmacy 02.25.2007 12:18 AM

roll - especially with poppy seeds and mustard

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 02.25.2007 01:39 PM

I think I'm more Rock and Roll.

Rock just makes me think of really lame music. When someone says they listen to rock I immediately start to think they are lame. If someone says "I love Rock and Roll" you atleast know they have some passion.

On that note, I've wanted to make a genre name that encompasses the word roll but not rock.

"What kind of music do you play?"
"I play noise roll"

Come on, isn't that awesome?

GeneticKiss 02.25.2007 10:31 PM

I am not afraid to say I am ROCK.........as a term, "rock 'n' roll" just sounds like old people trying to be hip.

max 02.25.2007 10:39 PM

i am a person.

Yeah, and Myspace doesn't even have "rock 'n' roll" as a genre, just plain old "rock". How are we meant to deal with these things? Just proves how ROCK Myspace really is and how rock 'n' roll it really isn't.

*logs into myspace*

demonrail666 02.26.2007 12:25 AM

If Myspace was a musical genre it'd probably be Emo, judging from all the 'look-at-me-i'm-significant-but-marginalised' sites on it.

Norma J 02.26.2007 12:30 AM

Screw the poppy emo! Poppy's meant for smokin'...
