Played 3 shows in 3 days.../who's been playing out latley?

The first show sucked, the second show was great, and the third show was amazing...made $90 towards practice space rent.

Been working in more audience participation latley...

Anyone played/playing lately? I'd like to hear live gig recordings and pics of boardmembers' shows.

timtimtim 02.24.2007 02:32 AM

I play tomorow!

Everyneurotic 02.24.2007 11:14 AM

awesome chout.

i'm playing tonight.

val-holla-ing 02.24.2007 12:12 PM

my band had our record release party last saturday night and we played (even though the other two bands went WAY over time and cut our set in half). we still slayed. ( http://www.myspace.com/wildernesspangs )

i also played a solo saxophone/mixer/laptop set in a bar in mobile, alabama on mardi gras (this past tuesday).

i'm taking a break from gig-ing and focusing on playing saxophone and piano for school for a while, though.

Savage Clone 02.24.2007 12:27 PM

CHOUT, two live tracks from that show you came to last month are on our freshly-minted and still very bare-bones myspace page. The whole set is available as well in much higher fidelity; if interested go ahead and PM me...

http://www.myspace.com/thunderboltpagodaband

And there is a live duo improv set I did with a friend in a solar-heated shanty on a frozen lake a couple of weeks ago streaming online as well. Paul Metzger played a set in there that is also streaming. Ours is "Petersen/Wivinus," with my friend Jesse on guitar and me on lapsteel. The electricity was also solar and made the amps buzz, but it was a good time. Sub-zero outside, and over 70 degrees F inside!
It was part of the annual Art Shanty project that some local artists do every year on the ice at Medicine Lake. Some very cool structures out there!

Streams here:

Here is a picture of Mute Era playing in the same shanty that day (too bad their set isn't streaming too; they are my favorite band in town):

My substantially stripped-down rig for that day, with the beautiful shag carpet inside the shanty in all its glory:

deathbyfeedback 02.24.2007 01:44 PM

that looks like a sexual noise machine.

ive not played or recorded in ages.

BAND for those interested.

youthoftomorrow 02.24.2007 05:31 PM

wow, Savage Clone, i really like "Horizon on Fire."

I can't listen to sounds right now, but nice...I'd like to do an album trade with you when we get our cd done.

Medicine Lake huh? Never heard about anything cool like that there.

I dug Mute Era at that show...liked the song where he was building his vocal parts up during the song...and the first band I've seen using an EH Pog quite liberally...made me want one even more. They were a little more 'straight-forward' musically than I imagined...

Never thought you'd have anything to do with a myspace page...SELLOUT!!! How NON-Obscure of you!!!

i'd be more than happy to! one of our members is the music director at our radio station, so if you send me more than one copy, it would get some airplay.

let me know when y'alls is done.

heavium 02.25.2007 06:56 AM

playing tonight, usually i play about two gigs a month now, it's perfect, two rehearsals and two gigs per month are nice, end of april we've got two gigs in a row though, including one contest gig for emergenza, which is gonna be pretty stressy, but hey..

CHOUT 02.25.2007 06:38 PM

There should be a sticky thread for gigging too, like sharing experience, pics advice etc...

"Quick and dirty" is the operative phrase.

"Real" website soon enough!

Norma J 02.25.2007 06:57 PM

First gig with new band this week actually. The rock 'n' roll and red wine will be flowing, I tell you.

I've did the typical thing I usually do, "You want a show", "Yeah, alright" and we don't really have that much time to practice and we just throw in a couple of rehearsals and then just play it anyway. I didn't want to do that with this band, a this mini festival thing came up. Oh well, that's rock 'n' roll I guess, ain't it.

Nice, have fun. Report back.

max 02.25.2007 08:06 PM

dudes and dudettes, we've lost virginity yesterday and it was rough and fuzzy and fucking mad.

the place was the worst pub in the world. the audience, besides our frightened friends, was merely comprising of cokeheads who started snorting as soon as we started the set.

we went into 12 songs during which i had a chance to grind my guitar against one of the above cokeheads who kept yelling the whole time, had the chance to witness a guy who started screaming that we weren't "fucking ganstas" and started a fight amongst cokeheads. as soon as we were done with the whole set we started packing and right out of the doors, about 40 cokers were still involved in the fight, which also included flying kicks against our cars parked outside the "venue" and a pair of tough guys trying to sleep in our trunks.

it's been fucking wild but we're glad we're still alive. and we have it all on video.

"i survived the first recs of the flesh gig" shirts will be printed asap.

me and matt setting up pedals:

val-holla-ing 02.25.2007 08:23 PM

you're gonna post video on youtube, right?

Dead-Air 02.25.2007 08:33 PM

We've been playing a lot for us. We try to only play 3-4 shows a year, but have been getting way more offers than we're used to. Here's a couple shots from our recent gig at Arts Crux Portland:

max 02.25.2007 08:34 PM

you talking to meeeee?

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 02.25.2007 08:38 PM

I got 4 gigs coming up. I haven't played one in like 2 months.

CHOUT 02.25.2007 08:45 PM

Kickass, Max! Please post video or audio of the gig. Sounds pretty insane compared to the places we play.

 Never thought of it that way, but yeah, I'm usually on top of my amp, or whatever else there might be, and at this particular gig it took a ladder to get up on the stage, so I pulled the ladder up after me towards the end. Here I thought I was being all cool climbing around like Lux and Iggy...

max 02.25.2007 08:51 PM

man that's a killer ladder, you travelling with a van???

hey CHOUUUUT! i guess i'll upload a short clip of praise on youtube... video kinda sucks tho, little or no light and no audience shown... but you can hear them clap... and besides the friends, they mostly sucked balls.

CHOUT 02.25.2007 08:54 PM

Don't worry about the quality, Max. I just got a video card for my puter and am about to unleash the low-quality-video bootleg fury on youtube!

max 02.25.2007 09:31 PM

ultrakiller! we should be editing the SPLITTING OF THE I video ourselves, videoguy has no time... it'll be THE MESS.... did you btw hear SPLITTING OF THE I on myspace?????????

There are some video tapes of my first show with a nameless band when I was 18. This girl has them and needs to burn them for me, but she is in London. Yeah

The camera that I recorded a bit of the first Spectral Presence show with died.

We recorded a recent one, but the drum machine clipped it really bad.

I think I'm gonna have my friend and fellow bandmate from another band videotape my next performance or two.

I'm doing a show with a bunch of punk bands and I think I'm gonna play some sped up fuzzed out David Bowie covers plus a few originals. I think it is going to be fun. If it works. Who knows. I wanna record that. So then the internet chicks will be all upons me for covering Bowie.

neither do i; Facebook is superior. however, the only problem with Facebook is that you can't upload music. so, myspace is a necessary evil.

If you click on the part of my Sig that say MY BAND that goes to our My Space page, where we've got the sound.

whorefrost 02.26.2007 11:22 AM

Played two shows in three days. Not bad, considering they were our first two gigs. They were both well recieved but personally I thought the first one was really shaky.

golden child 03.12.2007 09:28 PM

i played a show two days ago. twas fun. i got some pics if anyone is interested. one of the dudes that played recorded it and his daughter filmed it. looking forward to seeing/hearing it.

Пятхъдесят Шест 03.12.2007 09:30 PM

Welcome back Golden Child.

Have you already played the gig with the same bill as Smegma yet? If so how did it go?

golden child 03.12.2007 09:41 PM

yeah it was awesome! they are putting out a dvd of collected footage, some guy i know filmed there set. i played right after them (they played first) and then quickly had to split. bummed i missed the other bands, gang wizard, shitty vibe smasher and some others played. there is a comp of the show that rules aswell.

Onani Nic 03.12.2007 11:53 PM

My band Onani played two shows on saturday, the first one went really well. It was the first time I'd played trumpet live. It got shut down by the cops soon after we played then we hauled all our gear two bocks down the street(with some help) and played another.

Our second set was to a crowd of chin-scratchin electronic arts student and we played why more primitive as I lost an adaptor at the other venue. It was also planned to be more ygly to piss off the art fags.

He's a pic of the second set.

terminal pharmacy 03.12.2007 11:56 PM

i'm just about to embark on a 12 week tour of hamlet (8 shows a week)

CHOUT 03.13.2007 01:19 AM

We're doing 4 U2 songs at a gig on st pats day...it was supposed to be a buncha bands, but it's only gonna be 3, so I guess we'll be playing a few of our own.

max 03.16.2007 11:43 AM

hey hey, played another one yesterday night... kinda surreal, around 70 people but ...kinda enthusiastic about it. sold a few cds, made some new friends, discovered the meaning of "stage hotness"...

a few pics here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/munkypo...7600002117205/

video footage coming soon!

CHOUT 03.16.2007 10:59 PM

Sweet shots Max. If you and I didn't live so far, we would've played a show by now...
