Pixies - "I've Been Tired" live on Dutch TV in 1988. Encompasses everything that got me hooked on the band, it's just a fantastic performance of the song and the studio sound is great.

speaking of, here's SY doing "Nevermind" on Conan. I taped it that night on snowy VHS and re-watched it over and over again before YT was a thing.

honestly man - I love just watching these old TV performances of favorite 90's bands on Letterman, Conan, etc. Just brings me back to being a teen y'know? |
|
"Diamond Sea" on Letterman is so classic.
|
Quote:
So hilarious. Paul's organ solo is so obscene it's good |
I know! Haha i love it.

Agreed. Dennis Miller show and Live at Brixton Academy 1991 are awesome documents of the Trompe period. But I can't help but favour stuff from '88/'89... I just love their sound from that time |
No love for Incinerate on Letterman? Man I remember that vividly...I didn't even know they were playing that night and I hear it on the intro...I was so excited.
Anyways...i'd love to go through my saved videos on youtube...but most of the best ones have been deleted n stuff...it sucks...so much stuff I forgot about and so much stuff that's near impossible to find for me because I don't speak Japanese. One day....I'll find you....Kiyari Breakdown.... |

Do you mean that version of Tame where a few strings get ripped off the guitar? Sweet stuff. link: somewhere on youtube.com EDIT: Maybe not. Can't find it after twenty seconds, so it must've been taken down. |

I had a similar experience on Australian TV... this was an awful variety/chat show called Rove Live, all of a sudden SY comes on playing Incinerate... damn they pull a good studio sound on the show https://youtu.be/TUWpujBesz8 |
^ At the :10 mark, Thurston wants to kill the host.

Way back in the day, the first thing I downloaded on Napster was audio of this. I too played the hell out of it, and not just for the novelty of using the amazing new technology. |
Quote:
The show was often a vehicle for the latest Australian Idol contestants to perform... god knows that the backstage crew made of SY at soundcheck. "...umm do you guys wanna check if your guitars are tuned?" |
So nobody gives a fuck to put a top 10 list together?
|
I want to slavo. I am just trying to come up w/ a really solid 10. I have like... 3 or 4 in my mind right now.
|
I am working on mine. so much to choose

I certainly don't. I don't use youtube like I listen to albums. But if I were to make such a list, it would contain clips from the old Night Music program and similar stuff. |
Quote:
I love that one! "It's kind of a.. talking blues... if you will" |

I would like to see/hear such a list |
that Beasties' "Check it" would be on mine !!

That FEAR thing sure was wild...
Here are 10, but I'm afraid I wouldn't stick to the last ones long. Number One is the King himself, and I can't get enough of it... Elvis Presley - Suspicious Minds : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb0Jmy-JYbA Jon Spencer Blues Explosion on Australian TV show Recovery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViSgLo57680 Jon said the show took place one morning and that they were not too familiar with playing so early when all of a sudden, something happened. The clip contains both moments the band played, early on, and to close the show I presume. During the first part you see Jon somehow uncomfortable, that's the interesting part of it. The second part is the crazy part - from 5'40 to 9'40. Jon said that the TV crew was great as they kept helping him, providing him with mikes and letting him go wild. It can't be said about the French host on that clip... Jon Spencer Blues Explosion co-starring Jackie Chan : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kA_dSBLp1A8 That was shot the same day, I assume, as their show in Paris that year, a gig I went to, and a great great one it was. Quieter, now Sonic Youth – Stones, live in Saint-Brieuc : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIT_-0FUnDI Saw them 12 times, this performance is my favorite. Musically it was great, and the shooting is quite good. Dr Feelgood - Roxette : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nyeSGaBcrA Thee Oh Sees : a chunk of a concert in Paris in 2013 I went to. Warm Soda member crowd surfing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvh_Txnam2U The Replacements – Alex Chilton on Jimmy Fallon : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXYsJafVAok Adrienne Pauly – J’veux un mec (I want a man) on French TV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVtew9qAL-s David Bowie – Bring Me the Disco King : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlwtCkUnZHU ... 10 is too demanding; I'd put the falling out of a band in New York 1998 : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILR5-JK8gvg (either that or Sabrina singing Boys for television, but that would be too much and you'd forget all that's preceded) |

I think this is from a documentary called That's the Way It Is, which I caught on TV a few weeks back. Actually I just watched the first half, the backstage stuff. I was struck by how funny and full of life Elvis was. Not a fat sad man on his last leg. Someone was kind enough to edit together some of the funniest parts. He really was an incredibly charming, magnetic man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy1E98pA6bg |
Quote:
Yep ! His playing with the drummer at around 2 minutes is really funny. When Elvis died, I was 7 and I have no recollection at all of how his death was dealt with. As I grew older, I associated Elvis with his movies, which were aired on the Luxemburg television to "celebrate" him every summer. Given that his movies are terrible, I never believed he could have been good at all. It took viewing him on TV for the 30th birthday of his death to realize how talented and laid-back he was on stage. It was as if he would miss a beat, as he was smiling and looking at the audience, but he did not, and his voice... what a voice... |

Built To Spill - Broken Chairs - 3/15/2012 - Stage On Sixth, Austin, TX - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NtOA7ZT5XY
The Entrance Band Live: Grim Reaper Blues - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJMdNNSE0KE Talking Heads: LIVE IN ROME FULL CONCERT - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wp2qhoop9U Belew kills it in this. Fucking KILLS it! Sonic Youth - Live At The Art Rock Festival 2005 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IYAZe5rsRw I've grown quite fond of this one over the past few years. Primus - live at Red Rocks Webcast - August 12th 2010 (Full Show) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk4mlxY2row Solid setlist. Solid quality. Solid watch. Massive Attack - Antistar (Live - Pinkpop 2003) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GOa4h_qSrM Ministry - So What - (LIVE) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=syetLNIDZUo Not going to lie, I was quite surprised to see this on another list. Has long, long been a fav of mine. It was uploaded then went missing for a few years before this upload came around. Simply one of the best songs off of one of the best live albums ever put out. And a few nostalgic "I was there" vids that I am glad exist. Not all best quality by any means, but I love to go back and relive quite often. Modest Mouse - Live 2002.08.15 - The Diamond Ballroom, Oklahoma City, OK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IkHdKXIY3s Tool — Live 1996/12/15 [ANA-UG] @ Tulsa, OK - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OeK_Db5dYGo First of several Tool shows. Say what you will (and it has for sure, in the other thread), but I have long been a fan. This was a key moment for my life. Sonic Youth - expressway to yr skull (7/16/09) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mBGfbCn060 I'm Kyle, and this meant the world to me... Hard to stick to 10, but I will play by the rules. |

Quote:

A new one has made my list this month.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rZApf9c8Tes BABYMETAL Makes Their U.S. Television Debut ...and I am not even kidding. The "intrigue" of the past few years has turned into a total embrace of the odd with the new release. I can't tell you how many times I have watched this historic moment over the past several weeks. |
1984 - beastie boys & butthole surfers on the scott & gary tv show
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bezWjn1rT1E Beasties as a punk band. Butthole does their thing. |
