What band would you play in if you had the chance?

It doesn't have to be particularly an old, new, recent or any particular type of band either. At the moment i'm bewitched by NNCK and, more than on their records, they sound and look like fun to play live with.Ashtray Navigations are another one.I always wanted to be in Duran Duran and Loop or it'd be great to play with La Monte Young/John Cale/Tony Conrad/Terry Jennings etc in the sixties.

Pookie 03.16.2007 08:14 AM

Milli Vanilli

sarramkrop 03.16.2007 08:20 AM

You and sonicl would perfect as Wendy & Lisa.

sonicl 03.16.2007 08:21 AM

Sugababes. I do get to share a dressing room, don't I?

Being a Beastie Boy in the mid-90s would have been fun.

Or I'd love to be one of the Bad Seeds or a member of Neubauten. I bet no-one saw that one coming.

nicfit 03.16.2007 08:27 AM

for fun : bass player in Beck's backing band (I wish I was that good).
Other than that, I guess "added SY" like jim used to be would be very interesting/fun.
OR bass player for Wolfango.

nicfit 03.16.2007 08:33 AM

sounds like "human furniture" to me.

jon boy 03.16.2007 08:34 AM

sunburned hand of the man without a doubt because they would be the funnest band. they always seem to have so much fun and you can play whatever you want. what other bands allow you that?

Savage Clone 03.16.2007 08:36 AM

I would play with Overhang Party or Bardo Pond or Kinski.

king_buzzo 03.16.2007 08:40 AM

guest for dream aktion unit. hell yes. or play with mbv, kevin would just hate me.

king_buzzo 03.16.2007 08:41 AM

timtimtim 03.16.2007 11:02 AM

Polyphonic spree, doing whatever, preferably clapping and dancing.

_slavo_ 03.16.2007 11:04 AM

M O G W A I

soapbars 03.16.2007 11:52 AM

the catholics of frank black and the catholics fame,

fishmonkey 03.16.2007 11:55 AM

i would be one of Kylie Minogue's backing dancers.

drrrtyboots 03.16.2007 12:16 PM

Sleater-Kinney! Erase Errata! Le Tigre!

Oh right...i'm not allowed in those. I'm gonna say either NNCK or AC.

fluxequalsrad 03.16.2007 12:57 PM

I'd wanna be Nels in Wilco (new-ish guitarist) - he's amazing and all his parts are soo much fun, dicking around with all that expensive equipment and playing old jazzmaster. Coming into the band with a sick discography already sitting there.

schizophrenicroom 03.16.2007 12:59 PM

the spice girls

drrrtyboots 03.16.2007 01:04 PM

Schizo Spice! Just what they needed to pull them all together...

Cardinal Rob 03.16.2007 01:05 PM

Prolly Kayo Dot or Melt-Banana.

Пятхъдесят Шест 03.16.2007 02:55 PM

I think The Ex would be a ton of fun to play with.

HECKLER SPRAY 03.16.2007 03:16 PM

I think I'm too bad to replace Steve behind the drumset, so I 'd be the new drummer for Sebadoh.

maybe pink flag era wire.
the boredoms
butthole surfers
dino jr

but im just as happy playing in my band as i would any of those...

truncated 03.16.2007 03:52 PM

P.I.L. I imagine it would've been entertainingly melodramatic.

But the technical term for people who wish they were in a band is "groupies." Cock-sucking is a close second.

sarramkrop 03.16.2007 03:55 PM

Bullshit.

k-krack 03.16.2007 03:55 PM

To be in the Flying Luttenbachers would be absolutely fucking rad.

I wanna see the look on your face when Weasel yells "Hey! Get in tune!!! GET IN TUNE!!!"

I'd love to try to play guitar in the Hospitals. Or be like an auxiliary drummer.

Maybe sing a song for the New Flesh or Pissed Jeans.

hahah Shutit, fella. I never said I'd be up to par with anyone in the band, just that it would be fuckin' COOL!!! WW seems like the kind who would have the most intimidating voice possible, but he sounds so friendly and inviting!

Pissed Jeans are rad.

DJ Rick 03.16.2007 05:24 PM

It's always fun to see the Luttenbachers with each new member. Last year saw a new guitarist join the fold, and this guy doesn't look much like anyone Weasel would cross paths (let alone, join forces!) with....with all due respect to his playing, the dude looks like someone you'd find working at Guitar Center. Giant Cali surfer edition 80's metal mane, bushy goatee, satin button-up collar-shirt with huge flames on it. But the dude's musically on the level where he needs to be to perform in the band.

The first show they played here in Sacto was really funny because there's a particular free-scree part which is strategically placed, I believe, for the guitarists to change their tunings. The new guitarist appeared to have forgotten, and Weasel was trying to grab his attention through yelling. It took a lot because the venue was a swirling concrete cave of reverberating noise, and when the dude finally noticed Weasel yelling at him, he was briefly caught like a deer in the headlights.....then it clicked "OH!"

He was so embarrassed and sorry, but he played his ass off!

Weasel's not always so serious in a band. He was quite a goof in Curse of the Birthmark.

k-krack 03.16.2007 05:31 PM

I wish The Lutt's would play in Toronto or something, somewhere closer to me. Everything Weasel does is pure friggin' gold.
The closest to any cool stories an' shit with concerts is when Varge! played the other week, and the singer started singing in french (in one of the english verses). So he stopped the song... "Woop, that's my french mouth... let's try that again."
Totally unrelated...just kinda funny...

By the way... where are you from, Rick?

DJ Rick 03.16.2007 05:40 PM

Davis, California

Dead-Air 03.16.2007 09:18 PM

Most of my favorite bands I wouldn't want to hurt by adding me. Which isn't to say I suck, just that I'm not good enough for Sonic Youth or the Legendary Pink Dots, et al.

I did mean to ask Karp back when I lived in Oly if I could play moog for them as I saw somebody do it once that I think I could have blown away. Never got around to it, and then they broke up. Oddly, later, Chris played drums with me in the Dead Air Fresheners for quite a few gigs, which is to my knowledge the only thing he's done musically in public since leaving KARP. I think the mask was something he liked.

pantophobia 03.16.2007 09:27 PM

bass for The Spells, couldn't compete on Guitar, so some nice thunking bass would go well with Mary and Carrie's guitar virtu-awesome-nity-ness

Norma J 03.16.2007 09:44 PM

The Bronx for that fuck-you factor of just getting up there and belting out great tunes.

Or

Bluebottle Kiss, be an extra guitarist. Them parts where they get their Jazzmasters locked in that wall of sound of feedback and noises. Can't beat that. And to just be around a songwriter such as Jamie Hutchings would be a nice, pleasant experience.

but there's probably tons of bands that I'd be in that I can;t think of right now.

Edited: The Bad Seeds would be cool. Not to mention awefully intimidating.

Cantankerous 03.16.2007 09:49 PM

if the mary chain were looking for a chick bass player, or guitar player for that matter you know i would be all over that shit. for some reason i really want to play bass and sing backup/harmonies for them.

Norma J 03.16.2007 09:50 PM

Get your frizzy hair going.

Cantankerous 03.16.2007 09:55 PM

i wouldn't have to dye it back dark would i? i think the juxtaposition of the platinum hair and the black hair would be quite interesting.
