Daydream Deluxe out this June

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003559291

Sonic Youth will perform its landmark 1988 album, "Daydream Nation," in its entirety at several worldwide shows this summer. The first will be July 13 in Chicago as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival, in collaboration with ATP's Don't Look Back Series.

The band will also play Berkeley, Calif., Los Angeles and three shows in London; more dates will be added, according to a spokesperson. Previously announced was a June 2 "Daydream Nation" set at Spain's Primavera festival.

In addition, a long-awaited 20th anniversary edition of "Daydream Nation" is due in June. The set will feature a host of rarities associated with the period in which "Daydream" was recorded.

Sonic Youth begins a world tour April 17 in Osaka, Japan.

wowee zowee!!

CHOUT 03.19.2007 03:11 AM

4 Real? Lol! Killer!

nicfit 03.19.2007 04:22 AM

Dunno if this was specified before, but is there even the slightest possibility for this deluxe edition to come out as a cd+dvd release or will it be the "usual" 2cd thing? I think I'd kill to have that show partially included in Put blood etc.etc. but I'm just dreaming.

Miss Pornstar 03.19.2007 04:35 AM

Yessss!!! The DDN shows, deluxe edition... all very exciting!!!

HECKLER SPRAY 03.19.2007 04:39 AM

I can't wait !
I hope they'll put some live stuffs, videos...

!@#$%! 03.19.2007 05:28 AM

EVOL! EVOL! EVOL! EVOL!

(think about it...)

Kyohan 03.19.2007 06:39 AM

I'm pretty curious about what will be included on the extra disc. As I remember, there wasn't a lot of SY material released around the time of DDN that wasn't included on the album (Touch Me I'm Sick and the b-sides of Silver rocket are the only extras that spring to mind). I guess it'll be demos and live versions. A DVD would be nice though!

Washing Machine 03.19.2007 06:55 AM

i would love a documentary about the album

non metal guy in a metal tee shirt says party on!

demonrail666 03.19.2007 08:49 AM

Well, maybe once they're done re-issueing all their 'classics' they can get down to actually recording a new album that doesn't completely suck. Now that'd be REALLY exciting.

All Hail WATT 03.19.2007 09:32 AM

What are you talking about demonrail? New album that does not completely suck???
the last 3 albums were great!

screamingskull 03.19.2007 10:44 AM

ooooooooooh, exciting. I might get around to buying the Deluxe Goo and the Destroyed Room when this comes out. I am a little behind.

marleypumpkin 03.19.2007 11:15 AM

They should also consider filming the DDN shows & release a DVD in addition to this Deluxe Edition DDN, which I'M FUCKING EXCITED.

soniknirve 03.19.2007 12:42 PM

i wouldn't expect a dvd if it's also releasing as an LP set.

I'm stoked to see what is going to be on this. Hopefully they do put out a dve with it.

SYRFox 03.19.2007 01:52 PM

Oh gosh! I was so happy when I opened this thread that I jumped all around my house screaming and hitting the walls, then I went outside and I screamed "WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! " on the street. SO FUCKING GREAT!

hirsute_biped 03.19.2007 01:52 PM

this will be the SECOND daydream nation box set. check the first (info from official discog):

There was a Daydream Nation box set released. It was limited to 150 hand numbered copies, and measured 13"x13"x1.5". It contained 6 items:

#1 - Daydream Nation double-LP on Blast First (BFFP34).
#2 - Touch Me I'm Sick 7" Sub Pop single. (SP-26 ltd 3000)
#3 - Providence (stereo/mono) 7".
#4 - Teenage Riot 12" on Blast First.
#5 - Daydream Nation XL T-shirt.
#6 - Daydream Nation tour poster (Drifter + fall 88 tour dates)

they should re-release the DDN poster and t-shirt featuring the now-lost "drifter" guitar!

i guess they could include the b-sides of the candle EP, the peel sessions on the "speak no evol" boot 7in., the forced exposure "silver rocket" 7in., a smattering of compilation tracks from 1988-1989; or more enticingly, whatever hidden gems locked in the sonic vaults they see fit to release... demos would be rad...

Everyneurotic 03.19.2007 02:04 PM

i fucking hate that song, wowie zowee

GrungeMonkey 03.19.2007 02:15 PM

Yes!!!!!! I can't wait. It now kinda makes sense that SY are playing all these shows playing Daydream Nation... Even though they never did it for Goo or Dirty...

jennthebenn 03.19.2007 02:48 PM

i have that "drifter" poster. just beautiful.

I linked this thing a couple times in the past, but I just love the idea.

yeah, that would be great.
they have lots and lots of material to release some crazy box set.

SonikJesus 03.19.2007 04:45 PM

So is their gonig to be room on the first disc for more stuff or is it already full since DDN is a double album? Like most have already said, it should be a 4-disc set, but it probably won't. I can't wait to hear the remastered versions.

Cantankerous 03.19.2007 04:47 PM

is it coming out on LP?

nicfit 03.19.2007 04:48 PM

"Also keep an eye out for the 'Daydream Nation' Deluxe Edition 2xCD/4xLP in 2007."
from the news page.

Cantankerous 03.19.2007 04:50 PM

4xLP???

fuck yes.

Yep, 4xLP i think.

edit: too slow.

hirsute_biped 03.19.2007 04:55 PM

wet dream: SY do custom designed guitars ala kurdght koughbaighn's "jagstang", but theirs would be mangled jazzmasters, drifter, etc...

that would just destroy every ounce of "cool" they have left in them.

Wait, you're saying you don't like Ruben and the Jets? I really like Cruising With Ruben and the Jets, it's ace. I do have a soft spot for the odd bit of Doo-Wop though. Frank Zappa is largely shit though.

Let's wait and see.

dazedcola 03.19.2007 07:26 PM

I can't wait for this to come out, it seems like it was only a few months ago that goo was re-issued.My mind is filled with delightful thoughts of what will be the bonus tracks on it. That and the fact that i might be able to see SY perform the whole album live. If that happens I might need a bottle to scoop myself up in because I'll lose basic structure if i see all those songs played live at once.

I was thinking they could put the remastered album on one disc, the extras on another, a live show on another, and a dvd for the final disc. But it's already been confirmed to be a 2 disc/4 lp set anyway.

GrungeMonkey 03.20.2007 02:27 PM

It seems unlikely they'll do a dvd as part of this release. But they still may release one separately, who knows?
