So, i recently got into that "Pink" album by Boris
so... they're pretty kickass
got any other recommendations? |
I really like Amplifier Worship, it's got the rockin bits and the doomy bits.
|
AKUMA NO UTA
i little bit less 'chaotic' than pink but very interesting, the song it starts with is the song it ends with ( intro : drone at its best), inbetween are some fast tracks and a track that is very freestyle-ish, almost an instrumental ballad or something, but after a while the fuzzes and octavers break loose again, Boris-style, hehe get it ! amplifier worship...i dunno..it's a good stoner album...but not typically boris, i find it a more 'easy' listening album than pink and akuma |
WITCH! yes yes yes yes, get it no, i repeat , now!
|
akuma no uta is the first one i ever heard, and it's really easy to get into. also, try mabuta no ura, and rainbow with michio kurihara.
|
boris are a band like sonic youth where every album is different.
akuma no uta is kinda like the closest to pink. if you like the rocking songs there, then also check out heavy rocks, if you like the more subdued, drone pieces, get flood. seriously, check everything you can. |
i have all the boris albums
i meant to say other band recommendations |
just early melvins
GLUEY PORCH TREATMENTS ![]() and OZMA ![]() are two faves of mine. you probably already own these. |
already have them
thanks though |

Flood is great. I'm fond of most of the stuff I've listened to, up until now. Still haven't heard Dronevil the proper way though. |
I don't actually own it yet but there is this band from Spain called Orthodox on Southern Lord.
They sound good to me,: http://www.myspace.com/orthodoxband |

they fucking kill!!!!! gran poder is already one of my favorites of the year, i'm buying the vinyl...they are kinda like if you mix sleep and the melvins but on top there's a jazz drummer going nuts and the singer is just doing this really weird shriek. they could have released the first song by itself and it would be a bad ass album anyway (it's 30 minutes long). |
Def. give Khanate and Asva a wisten.
|
get VEIL or the new merzbow collaboration with them doing 2 covrs. i am the walrus by the beatles and groon by king crimson. excellent shit. most boris albums differ competley from the next. thats what makes them so interesting....
|
I listened to Absolutego today, it was really good. I'm gonna listen to Dronevil the proper way this weekend.

anyone here enjoy STREETCLEANER by Godflesh?
![]() |
what about Neurosis?
EyeHateGod? |
Quote:
Try Om or Sleep on for size. Can't go wrong with these. ![]() ![]() edit: thoooo come to think of it, neither of these sound anything like Pink. Much more of the DOOOOOOM. |
I only have "Sun Baked Snow Cave" with Merzbow. What am I missing out on?
|
then, check out:
nadja the goslings godflesh jesu church of misery corrupted grief orthodox zoroaster eyehategod clutch crowbar deliverance-era corrosion of conformity down khanate burning witch motörhead cro-mags (especially age of quarrel) high rise isis pelican red sparowes neurosis earth for starters, some play the ambient drone metal, some the sludge/stoner vibe and some the more rocking garage punk side of their sound. |
pelican i dig but i cant get into isis at all.. maybe im just a smidgen deaf!
in love with the new jesu record tho! |
i think pink is their worst.
even then, it's not bad at all. amplifier worship and flood for the win. anyway, check out the band [.]dot. |
oh, and check out everything everyneurotic mentioned.
you can check out my droney doomy band too if you want: http://www.myspace.com/robedot it's more in the vein of ghost sludge instead of doom drone but it's close! |

i'm going to upload the new pelican album to the group, but let me tell you it's AWFUL, not as bad as the new dinosaur jr or stooges album, but definitely horrible. and now that you are saying that, i'm uploading isis' oceanic (do you have that one?) and in the absense of truth. Quote:
i agree, it's a bit mediocre, but that's because the versions of some of the songs in there are not that good and edited out; the southern lord vinyl is amazing, extended versions = genius. |
haha yeah the new pelican is ... hmm. disappointing.
isis - in the absence of truth was also strangely disappointing, i love panopticon celestial and oceanic but in the absence of truth seems like they just bought a bunch of effects pedals and made an isis parody album. |
Quote:
really? i liked it because it was a lot more immediate; yes, they refer back to oceanic/celestial but there's still the melodic side of panopticon, but i thought it was more aggressive, i dug that. it took me months to get panopticon when i first got it and even afterwards i rarely listened to it. in the absense i liked it straight up. |
i really love Growing. they're very different from boris, but they create these amazing walls of sound, which usually attracts boris fans.
