Favorite Lightning Bolt Album
Lightning Bolt is one of my favorite bands right now. I love how they're not like all the shitty noise bands who have no talent (even though that's why noise is a cool genre). I like how they utilize noise and work it into a pretty solid melody. And they have fun doing it!
Anyway, my favorite has to be Wonderful Rainbow. |
Ride The Skies!
13 Monsters is one of my favorite songs ever. I like all the albums pretty well though. |
Yeah, Ride the Skies is a close second. Have you seen the DVD extra from The Power of Salad that is a crazy animated movie with 13 Monsters playing?
|
No. I've never even heard of it.
|
You should. It's a really cool tour documentery with the band. They even play in some guys kitchen and get the cops called on them.
|
That is so freaking rad. I'll have to find it online tonight.
|
fuck fuck fuck fuck
i watched the power of salad & got some mp3s and i ordered a ton of stuff from load records unfortunately the order was lost so i haven't got anything yet!!!! ooooh sweeet vinyl!!! come to me now!!!!!! then i'll post my opinion. |
I know there's a torrent on Demenoid that's where how I first saw it.
!@#$%! That sucks....Hope it comes soon. What albums did you order? |
i love lightning bolt
I was completly blown away when i heard "hypermagic mountain" every song on it is great, especially those longer tracks like "mohawk windmill" and "dead cowboy". I really want to see them do tracks from that record live. The power of sald is a cool dvd too. Those animated features are awesome to watch plus it was cool seeing lightning bolt play in someone's kitchen ! |
oh it wasnt a ton-ton actually but it FEELS like it
hypermagic mountain + ride the skies LPs + lightning bolt cd i can't fucking wait!!! and im re-renting power of salad from greencine (who else would have it?). but i might buy it-- even if i never buy dvds-- it's awesome-- & the animations are fucking great!! |
It's all i have right now..
Music designed for bike riding! HYPERMAGIC MOUNTAIN!@ |
Hey RIPfrey05, you ever download the Futurist? I upped it in that thread.
|
i have only heard Hypermagic Mountain all the way through and a handful of mp3s, so i will not vote.
but, i do fucking love what i've heard. "Ride the Sky" is one of the most insane songs ever recorded. |
gotta be hypermagic mountain. they are all great but hm is just wow!

EXACTLY!!! right now a close second is their s/t debut, juist because it's so huge |
i'm listening to the black pus album right now to block out my roommate's terrible music. LB makes me want to smash stuff.
|
bumpety
|
A reminder.
I'd almost forgotten about them. Any new material soon? |

they took time off to record the new album, hopefully it will be released this fall or maybe winter. |
Was huge into this band when Wonderful Rainbow came out.
Definitely reccomend Power of Salad. Their best album? Hmm... Hypermagic Mountain is good but it has a few throwaways, Wonderful Rainbow falls apart near the end, Ride the Skies can be a bit much, I'll go with self-titled, thank you! 1. Self-Titled 2. Hypermagic 3. Wonderful 4. Ride But they're all good. |
Wonderful Rainbow is the only one I have but I am very pleased by it.
|
dont have any.
|
dead cowboy is one of my all time favorite tracks
|
Wonderful Rainbow.
|
Hypermagic Mountain
|
Hypermagic Mountain. The "new" songs I heard in a live are sick sick sick. Wanna see themmm.---
|
for me it's:
1) hypermagic mountain 2) s/t 3) ride the skies 4) wonderful rainbow that's not to say i don't like wonderful rainbow, actually, i like it more than most music i listen, this is a scale in millimeters really, very close matches. |
Ride the skies.
|
Wonderful Rainbow but from their recent live shows, their new material is shaping up to be a fucking powerhouse.
|
Been listening to ride the skies a lot, gonna have to move it up a bit on my list. I still like self-titled the best by far but Ride the Skies has the song "Ride the Sky" which has to be amongst the best Lightning Bolt songs. The whole album just sounds so fucking mean! I think I'll place it at # 2 now.
I think my all time favorite Lightning Bolt song is "2 Towers" -- I love how about 5 minutes of it is just that 0-0-3-0-0-3-0-0-3-etc riff. Brilliant. Wonderful Rainbow is probably their worst though.. the second half isn't that great comparatively. Great band. |
My favourite Lightning Bolt is definitely Wonderful Rainbow, my least favourite is Hypermagic Mountain.
|
im listening to ride the skies as we speak. its great, but its no hypermagic mountain

you think s/t is thier best? i think its cool and all, hisham's vocals, but id say thier sound was far from perfected at that point, and its their worst record. i like wonderful rainbow best. |
Yeah, I agree with bat....self titled kind of sounds like a demo to what they eventually would become.
|
I dunno, my favorite thing about lightning bolt is the really long stretches of jamming, and self-titled has that in spades. Thinking about it now, all my favorite Lightning Bolt songs are the really long ones anyway. It does sound demo-y, but that doesn't decline from the quality to me. And it's a bit excessive but I think it's also the most powerful. I dunno. They're all good to some degree, I think "Wonderful Rainbow" has the most songs on it that aren't that great though.
|
Wonderful Rainbow because it has 2 Towers. The version on Power of Salad and Milkshakes is insane.
