I've always thought of Can's Mushroom from Tago Mago as being about nuclear war. I don't know.

It is all-pervading. And it's certainly handy for 'list of songs about...' searches.

I have to admit I don't know most of those, but I can say, as one who served in the Air Force in W. Germany in the 1980s, that there is just something about the Nena song that so embodies that part of the Cold War. Seriously.

I voted for YLTs Nuclear War but I know you really meant Sun Ra so that's OK.

I think Breathing by Kate Bush could've been on the list too.

I don't know many of the songs, but Charles Mingus is my favourite artist out of those listed.

oh yeah i would vote mingus too but i havent actually HEARD that so i thought it would be cheating a little bit.

I picked '99 Luftballons' by Nena, simply because the german version is one of my favorite pop songs ever.

Perhaps favorite German pop song.

Also, there are numerous cover versions that make this song most enjoyable.

Off that list I voted for "World Destruction", but if the Sun Ra version of "Nuclear War" were there I'd go that way for sure. I like the Yo La Tengo version o.k., especially the Mike Ladd remix, but the original is the stroke of genius.
