Shellac Tonight in London

Anyone else there tonight? It was my first time seeing them. Very impressive.

Setlist?

sick

How many "new" songs did they play? ("new" because they've already been playing some of those for 3 years)

I guess they're not already selling the new album on this tour, right? Come to think of it, I'm not sure if they even had anything for sale when I saw them last time.

demonrail666 05.18.2007 07:03 AM

Well I'm not a huge fan so I don't know what 99% of the songs were, other than that they played the 'radio' thing, and something about being a aeroplane. Other than that, no idea but even so, thought they were very good.

Didn't have a good look at the merch stand, but Albini did mention something about the new album coming out June 5th - although I'm sure you know that anyway.

_slavo_ 05.18.2007 07:07 AM

Must have been kickass.

demonrail666 05.18.2007 07:12 AM

Considering I knew hardly any of the songs, and that i'm not the biggest Albini fan anyway, I'm surprising myself in confessing that they were indeed VERY good.

heavy?

demonrail666 05.18.2007 07:22 AM

Not overly, just more impressive. Really controlled (which is someething I don't usually like) I wouldn't say they were that loud or anything, but from where I was (towards the back) the sound was really clear.

I might be the only person in the world though that finds the whole Q&A thing a bit boring.

You're not.
Hopefully I'll see them live for the first time on the 30th.

demonrail666 05.18.2007 07:28 AM

They're probably even better if you've already heard the songs they're playing.

MellySingsDoom 05.18.2007 07:42 AM

Did they do the ever-tasteful "In A Minute" (y'know - "Fuck a Jew/In a minute" etc)?

demonrail666 05.18.2007 07:53 AM

Yes, I remember hearing that line at some point.

MellySingsDoom 05.18.2007 07:54 AM

Nice! Where did they play, out of interest?

demonrail666 05.18.2007 07:55 AM

Koko

MellySingsDoom 05.18.2007 07:57 AM

I like Koko - it's got a good sound and it has an olde-world charm architecturally-speaking. Last band I saw there was the mighty Celtic Frost ("London, once more I ask, ARE YOU MORBID??").

Fantastic!

sonicl 05.18.2007 08:11 AM

I hate Koko, it's nothing but a hipsters' palace. It's nigh on impossible to get a decent view of the stage from 75% of the place, and it's acoustically dire. It's a place where people go to hang out, not to see bands. I'd go there if SY were playing, but other than that you wouldn't get me in there again in a month of Sundays.

demonrail666 05.18.2007 08:17 AM

Well, I saw the band fine (and the show was a sell-out) and the sound was excellent, I have to say.

Toilet & Bowels 05.18.2007 03:48 PM

i almost went but then couldn't, i was disappointed not to go but i've seen them a couple of times before, they're a fantastic live band.

demonrail666 05.18.2007 04:57 PM

Excellent show but fairly boring support act. (The Lords) Think Blues Explosion/Danko Jones-lite. Would've thought they could've done better than that.
