Spiderland Appreciation Thread

Its been one of my favourites for a few months now. But the other week i bought the vinyl. Hearing the album on Vinyl was a real revelation. On Vinyl it takes on a whole new lease of life. Its without a doubt one of the most hyponitising and beautiful albums ive ever heard. I haven't been in love with a record like this for quite sometime. I know theres a lot of love for this record on this board so it would be interesting to se what the rest of you think

sarramkrop 05.19.2007 08:24 AM

It bores me. Codeine are better, that's my contribution to this thread.

ZEROpumpkins 05.19.2007 08:27 AM

It's a great album, I really dig it.

jimbrim 05.19.2007 08:32 AM

I first heard it 2 years ago (i was only 3 years old when it was released) and to be honest i thought it was quite boring. After listening to it a few more times, it grew to be one of my favourite records.
You've made wanna buy it vinyl now!

Torn Curtain 05.19.2007 08:39 AM

I only listened to it twice. At the first listen I didn't get it, at the second one I liked it more. Maybe I should listen to it again.

atsonicpark 05.19.2007 08:39 AM

hahaha, oh shit!

codeine is amazing.. frigid stars is a great album.

but nothing touches spiderland.

"i miss you."

Say that backwards, sonny. I know this joke is too much for you, but that's because i'm better than you are.

demonrail666 05.19.2007 08:43 AM

Spiderland has a total of one good track on it, the name of which I've forgotten but i think its the first one.

atsonicpark 05.19.2007 08:53 AM

heh.

ZEROpumpkins 05.19.2007 09:01 AM

Wow there's not much love here...

Washing Machine 05.19.2007 09:09 AM

Its a must if you buy the album to get it on Vinyl. It has a completely different feel.

Washer is my favourite track so heart-warming, and it takes a lot to warm my heart.

The Usher 05.19.2007 09:13 AM

Yeah, I think it's a totally amazing album, still totally freaks me out every time I listen to it, which must be VERY loud. Good Morning, Captain rules!

Washing Machine 05.19.2007 09:16 AM

Yeah it has to be listened to loud, to be appreciated

sarramkrop 05.19.2007 09:18 AM

Done many times. It bores me.

Can that be said about their other records, or is just spiderland that bores you?

Washing Machine 05.19.2007 09:33 AM

I'm not into Slint's first record i just think spiderland is amazing.

demonrail666 05.19.2007 10:43 AM

Spiderland is definitely one of those albums that forged a new direction. I've just never been a big fan of that direction, I suppose.

SonicSam 05.19.2007 11:02 AM

Oh man, so many haters! Spiderland is more or less the best album ever made. Good morning captain is definately the best song ever written. I need to get it on vinyl! Also the first LP's pretty good and the EP is amazing!

Cardinal Rob 05.19.2007 01:40 PM

Spiderland is a great vinyl of mine, "Good Morning, Captain" is human emotion at its best (until mewithoutYou came into existence anyway) and "Nosferatu Man" is incredible.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 05.19.2007 01:41 PM

Haha. Slint takes a dump on Codeine. Rodan takes a dump on Codeine. Get the fuck out of here with this Codeine shit.

probably the best thing ever said on this board. Slint + rodan rule. Codeine are complete shite!

_slavo_ 05.20.2007 05:50 AM

Spiderland is one hell of a great album. Heavy, dark, and awesome.

pbradley 05.20.2007 05:57 AM

It's great but I really have to be in the mood. At least it's better than the majority of the bullshit post-rock crap that came after.

Trasher02 05.20.2007 06:02 AM

/appreciated

pbradley 05.20.2007 06:05 AM

Oh, and I got The For Carnation's self-titled if anyone is interested. Brian McMahan taking it darker, heavier, and... well... slower.

atsonicpark 05.20.2007 07:08 AM

codeine are amazing.

not sure why rodan got brought up, but yeah.. they're great too. love that fucking long ass song on rusty.

and washer is my favorite song too.

pokkeherrie 05.20.2007 08:28 AM

I haven't listened to Spiderland in years and it's not an album I ever feel like listening to anymore, but I'm seeing Slint tomorrow and I'm sort of looking forward to that in a weird way. I've never been a fan of Tweez though, but that untitled EP was pretty good.

I find Codeine pretty damn boring.

pokkeherrie 05.20.2007 09:15 AM

I guess I could be. That doesn't make them an exciting band though.

Cool, I've never heard of this, sounds good though!

Massassinated 05.20.2007 11:22 AM

Best rock album of the 90s, and one of the greatest masterpieces in rock history.
