So if you dont like Elliott Smith you dont have a soul
Its actually sad that hes dead because if he wasnt there would be more good things. Im sure all of you agree like good humans.
|
I guess I don't have a soul.
Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about going to hell now. |
BAD human
|
I'm gonna agree with Cultie, even as very casual fan... I've really like everything I've heard (maybe five-six songs), but have never picked up a record.
Cool stuff, and I love his voice multi-tracked... it's beautiful. |
I heard him compared to Mozart once. *doesn't contribute to thread*
|
shit, and i was totally gonna sell it, too.
|
I don't understand him.

can i say "pfffffffttttttttt!!" ?? so, pfffffffffffffttttttttttttttttt!!!! thank you. |
I like him alot... Elliott Smith that is.
|
Depressing and predictable. He's a bad influence on all kids, even as a very dead corpse. If you were to choose a more fun dead person to play you some music, why not go for Joe Meek? At least you could dream of shooting your landlady in the face in your own front room recording studio. And you'd get to leave better and more enjoyable music than a few insipid shite-fi tunes.

With all respect, this is typo-laden nonsense. |
Who is Elliot Smith, and is it worth checking him out?
|
well this one sunk without a trace

sorry, i didn't mean to be harsh, but your claims were a little over the top. |

No worries, i meant its obviously become not cool to like Elliott Smith now. And hey, if I cant be over the top about music i like then im probably in the wrong place. |
i like elliot a lot.
but he's being taken to another completely stupid level because of his death. he's being cobained. |
Quote:
Must repped blah blah blah, for He's being cobained. Brilliant. |
Quote:
it's cool. hitler famously cried at the opera. |
Quote:
That's nonsense. Where is he being 'Cobained', then? Fair enough, you like his music, nothing wrong with that, but that's a bit of a bold statement. |
Quote:
Thats one excellent new verb. I dunno if hes being cobained though, but i can see him becoming biggied. |
"Becoming"? He didn't die yesterday.
The fact is people romanticise over dead musicians/actors/actresses/whatever, it doesn't denote the guys talent. He was a fantastic songwriter who should have gotten the recognition he now getting when he was alive, which was one of the main contributors to his death, I believe. Although saying this, he is hardly a household name - your mum (mom) doesn't know who Elliott Smith is. You're safe for now. |
Personally I think he's one of the best musicians of the last generation... I agree that he wasn't recognized enough - though i dont think he was totally comfortable with it, despite me reading that he wanted to be really popular. I kind of see him simular to SY in a way, in that I dont think he ever drastically changed what he was doing but it gradually did and stayed interesting for it. Also, Heatmiser had some awesome songs.
|
I dunno, he seemed to get a fair amount of recognition. His albums were all pretty well recieved, and didn't he play the Oscars one year? Maybe he wasn't as popular as he wanted to be, but there are certainly deserving artists that have gotten less.
That said, I'm a fan. Either/Or being my all time favorite Smith record. |
elliot smith deserves praise and acalaids until the end of fucking time. if you don't worship a small shrine with his picture on it daily, you've been under the influence of pure evil for far too long.
|
Haha, what?
Anyways, I refuse to discuss/listen to/whatever about Elliot Smith so close to a Shellac release. Don't throw off my mood. |
I love eliot Smith. Either / or is just a classic album. Wasn't too fond of the big band stuff though.
|
Definatly the first three albums were the best.
