Helen Lundeburg/Eyeliner 7"

http://www.midheaven.com/bin/search.cgi/date=5.1.06

Artist:SONIC YOUTHTitle:Helen Lundeburg/EyelinerFormat:7"Catalog
Number:
SY00Price:$4.00Label:Sonic YouthRelease
Date:
5/1/06****** Two of the final tracks recorded at SONIC YOUTH’s Murray St. studio before the classic quartet line-up was kicked out of NYC. For a time assumed to be lost, “Helen Lundeburg” and “Eyeliner” are both Thurston Moore-sung tracks that couldn't be shoehorned onto the upcoming Rather Ripped.< No one’s really sure /i>who released this, but the dude who dropped them off on the diCristina loading dock was driving a thrashed RAV4.

Neato...Helen Lundeburg is my favorite song from the acoustic Flywheel set... just ordered it now, can't wait.

Thank you Moshe for the heads up... as usual your investigative talents are exemplary.

Gulasch Noir 04.29.2006 05:11 AM

There's a label called Sonic Youth? (see label and catalog number)

thanks for posting this.

samuel 04.29.2006 09:53 AM

Man, that's awesome.
Helen Lundeberg was my favorite song from the Flywheel set too.
$4 should be worth it and Eyeliner.

Isoflurane 04.29.2006 01:02 PM

Fuck yeah.
Buy seven of them.
Sell them on Ebay in 20 years.

hiland 04.29.2006 09:49 PM

looks like a ledgit release..as it was in some catalog at work today...although if thats the final cover art..im a bit dissappointed...

We just added a media mail option for the US to the KungFuNation site. We've tried to avoid Media Mail because it can take forevah - or as Outkast would ask and answer: "Forever-ever? Forever-ever!" But spending $4 shipping on a $4 single seems excessive because not everyone has Outkast dollars. If you maintain your virtuous patience when you select Media Mail, we're happy to offer it.

So, thanks for the polite discussion of the matter!

Ciao!

hambu hodo 05.01.2006 10:50 PM

is this going to be available in record stores? or just online?

Everyneurotic 05.01.2006 10:52 PM

i take it it's not a limited edition 7", right?

midheaven is probably my favorite music store, online or real.

sonicl 05.02.2006 12:15 AM

Thanks for the news Moshe.

Is it possible to order through a money order? I've send them an email about this but I'm not getting a response.

yes sir, they do:

We accept VISA and MasterCard, as well as checks (they're held for a week or two until our bank says it's okay), money orders, IMOs (International Money Orders drawn in US dollars only), and (well-concealed) cash (if you mail cash, send it via registered mail!) Credit card orders can be submitted via Netscape, Internet Explorer, AOL or any other browser. If you'd rather send credit card info via fax, mail, or email, that's okay, too. You may also print out a time-tested paper order form and snailmail it to us instead. We're not able to issue cash refunds; if you prepay your order and send it via snailmail and we are out of stock on any of your choices, we will issue a credit slip to be used on subsequent orders. If you need assistance or have any questions about online ordering, contact help@midheaven.com.

Thanks.

hey alex 05.04.2006 12:23 PM

I got mine today and i'm listening to helen lundeberg now... and I can wow this fuckin awesome! Can;t wait to spin the eyeliner side.

I think it was left off because these songs were recorded at murray street and they just didn't have access to the tapes or some such shit. It's something to do with murray street.

Thurston's voice sounds funny in a good way on eyeliner./ Yea, it was good, not quite as good as helen tho. Glad I bought this baby.

nobye-noaloha 05.05.2006 04:10 AM

internationnal shipping cost are $12 !!!!!! (total : $16) via kungfu nation and $7.95 via midheaven mailorder (total : $11.95) .For european, via cargo : £5.95 (total about $11).

duderanchnurse 05.05.2006 07:13 AM

can someone please encode them in mp3 and post a link?
thanx

scott v 05.05.2006 11:54 AM

I got my copy yesterday and i think i ordered mine on Friday?...
anyways these 2 tracks are rockers w/ much more crunchier guitars
than anything on the new album so w/ that and thurston's vocal delivery they really don't fit in well on Rather Ripped, and thats no surprise that they aren't included on it. i suppose i can comparitively say that the 7" sounds quite abit more Stooges style punk influenced than anything else they've done in the recent past. I kinda wish that Rather Ripped had some more of the "abrasiveness" like on this 7".

skinnypaul 05.05.2006 01:09 PM

FWIW UK online retailers seem to have got these in today. Boomkat and Norman records both have them - I imagine they'll turn up at Rough Trade et al as well.

The Norman site claims these are limited to 500 copies.

toxic johnny 05.06.2006 05:12 AM

Got mine in the mail today.... and holy fuck it was worth the wait... I LOVE this single!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. I agree with everything that Scott v has said.
Eyeliner has a real freeform feel and a beautiful abrasive sound.
Helen Lundeburg is just fantastic from beginning to end...great song structure and lyrics as well as the crazy squall. They have to play them on the next tour as they will be killer.

Ok here we go... I think that they are the best thing's that they have done since NYCG+F, which is a landmark album in my opinion.

Buy it and crank it up.

Neongod 05.06.2006 11:42 AM

These tracks are very, um, sub-par. Nothing at all like the RR tracks. Good choice to release them seperately. They do, however, contain much of the Sonic noise some of you miss.

toxic johnny 05.07.2006 02:17 PM

No one else got this yet?

whorefrost 05.09.2006 05:00 AM

arrived this morning... wow... fucking great... so much better than rather ripped! helen lundeberg is fantastic... eyeliner is cool, i've a feeling it will grow on me a lot more... it sounds like it should have been a kim gordon vocal maybe! i could imagine her using her bodacious vocal stylings as heard on mariah carey and the arthur doyle handcream.... it sounded like thursotn was trying to kind of emulate that style maybe... maybe she has given up such vocals in favour of psuedo english rock incantations... (see what a waste)

whorefrost 05.10.2006 11:06 AM

i love the drumming, the guitars, the lyrics, the vocal stylings.... it sounds like classic SY but its completely rad and its like the Fall meets free jazz meets punk meets cool shit and i love it and helen lundeberg reminds me of New Puritan by the Fall a bit and the vocals are like from Thurston's book of poetry and they're great and i hate the vocals on rather ripped they're so half assed!

jheii 05.10.2006 11:14 AM

I definitely enjoy Helen Lundeburg: sounds a bit like DNA. Eye Liner is fun, but not as much -umph- if you dig me. All in all I'm not dissapointed.

Ich bin gael 05.10.2006 02:43 PM

I picked it up at the store today for $4. Can't wait to listen to it.

The art is very shitty though. Minimalism can be done much better.
