Jesu
I don't know how I didn't pick up on this stuff sooner. Jesu is amazing... I never really cared for the Godflesh material (well, some of it's alright, but I wasn't gonna buy any of it), but this "new" project is incredible.
I picked up the Silver EP on a recommendation from a friend, and ended up buy the rest of the Jesu records the next day. The new one, Conqueror is my new personal favorite. Any thoughts? |
new album of theirs in the works with Jarboe of SWANS doing some vocals. can't wait to hear that one.
|
I love Jesu. I havent yet heard the latest record, but i've read some pretty decent review's. I'll defiently check it out soon.
My personal fave is the first Jesu recording, 'Heartache'. So heavy, yet so melodic. |

This should be awesome! |
Jesu is awesome! Love em. Yea, I can't wait to hear their stuff with Jarboe. Should be amazing, indeed.
|
i've been into them since their first full lenght, i downloaded it out of curiosity, then mailed ordered it from a store the next day and uploaded it to one of the ysi threads back at the old board.
conqueror is my favorite too, one of the best of the year. |
yeah i heard them back when heartache came out because i have always loved godflesh.
i like jesu's ep's better than their full lengths for whatever reason. |
That new 2 song EP "Sun Down / Sun Rise" is just incredible. Droney and at times almost ambient.
|
Jesu kick serious bottom, y'all. They're good live, too.

Sun Down/Sun Rise is a close second... great record. |
you know why they rule live?
justin wears a jesu shirt while playing live. |
That must really drive fanboys to the merch table.
|
i'm not that into their records, but i saw them with Isis and they were pretty good.
|
conquerer is fantastic.. the new sun down/ sun rise e.p. is stunning... epic to say the least
|
Jesu have never appealed to me as much as Godflesh did, but pretty much everything I've heard is still good stuff at its worst.
There's quite informative interview of justin broadrick at brainwashed. |
i actually thought godflesh were kinda meh, then when i heard jesu it made me re-appreciate godflesh a whole more, i kinda understood and felt what justin was trying to do then.
|
same here marcos. i was never a godflesh fan at all but recently tried em out again and yeah, th apreciation is there but jesu i a much finer project......
|
i love godflesh now, though.
i think i might have been biased because earache at the moment were going thru a shite period (which they haven't gotten out of), although looking back i like most of those bands now. godflesh, cathedral, carcass, bolt thrower, entombed, etc. i love them now, the only bands i liked then were brutal truth and entombed i think. |
I think Godflesh is one of the only Earache bands of that period that I've never really gotten into. I can see the appeal, but it's just not something I dig all that much.
Cathedral & Bolth Thrower on the other hand... |
i couldn't get past lee's singing in cathedral then, i thought it was laughable.
especially after napalm. |
I wasn't aware of Napalm Death's existence when I was turned on to Cathedral... it was only later that I found out that it was the same guy... kinda blew my mind a little, since it's so different.
Still, Forest of Equillibrium and the last two records are fabulous doom albums. |
yeah, in like 6th grade, me and a friend would kind of try and find the heaviest, fastest, most extreme band we could; i got him into slayer, he got me into sepultura and so on. one day he brought the from enslavement to obliteration tape and i couldn't believe the drums, i heard it that one time for like 10 minutes and i couldn't get the sound out of my head. it blew my mind.
then i heard cathedral having in mind that it was the dude from napalm but now he was singing instead of growling and that they played slow and kinda like black sabbath, but i still got disappointed. actually, the one i heard was the ethereal mirror and that's also the one that, years later, got me into them. the last one is pretty good, the 25-ish minutes long song is fantastic. |

yeah, hope lifeline gets a vinyl release.

jesus
jesu needs to slow down |
you know what would rule? if justin reissues his early final tapes, back when he played power electronics.
that would rule. but yeah, probably next year he won't be doing more jesu, i mean, he's probably going to focus on grey machine, final perhaps and, seeing as he performed with them recently, sunn o)))'s new album. |

Sun Down / Sun Rise is also my fave, with Silver a close second - Conqueror and Lifeline haven't sunk in yet, though. A friend and Godflesh fan described Jesu as "MBV meets metal", which probably explains why I like them so much. :D (My friend didn't - he meant it as a put-down.) |
I forgot: a very good recording is available at http://iamserio.us/2007/04/04/jesu-2007-04-03/.

you didn't miss much, i have a boot of their paris show from that tour and they only played three songs. |
I saw the silver ep at the record store but never picked up on it. After reading one of atsonicpark's threads I checked them out. Very nice.
|
they're coming here!
|
the carts vibrated on cue.

i have silver on vinyl.

I was never a fan of Godflesh until recently... I've slowly started working my way through the back catalog, and I'm enjoying just about everything.
Long live Justin Broadrick. |
