Car bomb in Central London

This could have been total carnage.

http://www.channel4.com/news/article...+london/581997

nicfit 06.29.2007 05:52 AM

Fucking scary.
Strange that the guy did not care much of going unnoticed, and even stranger the fact that he ran away leaving the lights on and the car "parked" in such a noticeably unordinary state... drunken terrorist???

MellySingsDoom 06.29.2007 06:38 AM

I work 3 mins from where the bomb was found. Thank god it was found and defused.

sarramkrop 06.29.2007 06:45 AM

It makes things a bit worrying again because I commute through the city every morning. Oh well.

ZEROpumpkins 06.29.2007 06:57 AM

Heavy, aint it?

Katy 06.29.2007 07:26 AM

Ugh.

is that because the driver was drunk?

RASCISTS!(?)

nicfit 06.29.2007 07:47 AM

ming!

Florya 06.29.2007 07:56 AM

Is it definitely a failed terrorist attack?

Or was it just someone abandoning a dodgy motor full of building materials?

If it was a terrorist, why was he seen trying to remove the gas cannisters from the car?

I wouldn't panic just yet.

No. It's because he fucked it up! :) (bad joke)

Racist.

Anyway, who knows? I think most people in London wouldn't panic even if the bomb had gone off. It was definitely a bomb, but it looks more like the work of some loner, a bit like the one who bombed Brixton, the gay pub in Soho and Brick Lane a few years ago.

Tokolosh 06.29.2007 08:11 AM

It looks like Scotland Yard didn't even see it coming. They should be thankful that passers-by noticed something suspicious about the car.

tesla69 06.29.2007 08:18 AM

Its a good thing they have cameras on every street corner in England watching your every movement to stop this kind of thing!

Oh wait, the cameras did nothing to stop this.

pantophobia 06.29.2007 08:21 AM

Nefeli, thats a couple of blocks or so from where You, Me, Jenn and Naomi stayed in 2004 before ATP isn't it?

sarramkrop 06.29.2007 08:36 AM

Was there a Holiday Inn full of SY boardies?

He must have been in a good mood at that time. I hear that he takes innocent groups of Nirvana fans to see Madame Butterfly, when he's having a bad day.

The irony was lost on you too. I know that you're not racist, just slightly xenophobic.:)

well there were 4 bands before Saccharine Trust, and only The Battys and French Toast were good, the other two bored Naomi to sleep, i am suprised we all last through those weird bar bands

MellySingsDoom 06.29.2007 09:17 AM

We've just heard at work that allegedly a 2nd car bomb has been found on Park Lane - Reuters are also reporting this. I'm hoping that this news is nothing more than a very cautious check on vehicles.

pantophobia 06.29.2007 09:20 AM

I heard about that earlier. I hope that it isn't true because it also means that they're gonna shut down most tube lines and close off many areas, which generally means that getting anywhere will mean facing utter chaos.

Dead-Air 06.29.2007 09:34 AM

This says something about news in America, that I heard about this here first. Granted it's on the front of CNN.com now, but I'd already cruised through Yahoo to get my e-mail (it's not even in the news headlines on their front page!) without noticing it, and I saw nothing at all anywhere last night when it would have been happening.

Iain 06.29.2007 09:39 AM

The bomb was outside a branch of Tiger Tiger for heavens sake. They should have let it go off and done everyone a favour. The average IQ of Londoners probably would have shot up a few points.

Now that I thought about it again, that would be just like any other day commuting in London.

Smokers Gifts 06.29.2007 09:51 AM

Ooerr, I'm gonna bring me bullet proof vest and crash helmet down for our tour!! :( Luckily I live in Leeds, where all the terrorists come from, so (touch wood) we're relatively safe.

too true.

SynthethicalY 06.29.2007 11:44 AM

Melly, Now you be safe, I don't want to hear about you in the tube.

the ikara cult 06.29.2007 12:51 PM

horrible shit to hear about this today, i remember July 2005 when a freind of a friend was killed. You have to realise that intelligence and the like is the most important thing in preventing these things, so thank the god i dont believe in that this was averted.

I nicked a crate of beer from a Tiger Tiger once, and i have to say a gang of geordie bouncers is more scary than instant death anyday

MellySingsDoom 06.29.2007 12:58 PM

Synth, I got back home safe and sound.

the ikara cult - LOL at the beer-nicking incident. Also scary are the waiters at Wong Kei, when all of your friends have done a runner and you don't have enough cash to pay the bill.

It was BREAKING NEWS this morning on CNN. I saw it while I was getting ready for work, at approx. 4:30 AM local time.

They were saying something about being near a theater district, and I seemed to remember someone from the board worked for or in a theater. This might be a figment of my imagination though.

MellySingsDoom 06.29.2007 02:39 PM

^^^^You're not wrong in that it was in the middle of the West End, and near a few theatres. Mind you, if you think it's a bohemian district where everyone watches plays and spends their time in coffee houses drinking absinthe and discussing Rimbaud and Brecht, well, unfortunately that's not the case :(

Danny Himself 06.29.2007 03:51 PM

My sister was praising M15 earlier for stopping this. I couldn't even think of what to say to her.

But woo, London lives another day.

How about "Damn Londoners, think they're so clever with their Parliament and everything. I'll show them. Show them all!!!"?

Danny Himself 06.29.2007 04:01 PM

Are you saying I did this?

Sure, blame the catholics again..

MellySingsDoom 06.29.2007 04:05 PM

No, I'm not saying you did it, just that you don't like London a great deal. Of course, I don't want to comment on rumours of sighting of a man in the same area, running off with a Fender Jazzmaster shouting, "So what about the Beatles, eh? They weren't from London!".

Danny Himself 06.29.2007 04:07 PM

Oh, it can't have been me, I don't listen to The Beatles. Nor do I promote them.
