Cussing

do you think of an alternative before swearing, or do you not mind swearing?

MellySingsDoom 07.04.2007 08:44 AM

Fuck no.

Danny Himself 07.04.2007 08:58 AM

I have no qualms about swearing when my friends are around or whatever, but I try to avoid it when I can. I have a rule that I don't swear around my parents and extended family. A sign of respect, I suppose, I don't know. I conciously make the efforts to avoid taking the lord's name in vain- I replace them, so;

"Jesus Christ!" becomes "Jesus Tonight!" in the same inflection
"Oh My God" becomes "Oh my goodness" or something like that
"Holy Shit" becomes.. well. hmm.

Anyway, I think I usually have the right frame of mind to dig into my vocabulary and find something to replace swearing. Where someone would usually say "thats shit", I'll say "that is ruthlessly awful", or something to that tune. So yeah. Cussing. It's alright.

k-krack 07.04.2007 11:59 AM

I do swear a TON with friends, but with family and people I respect and such, I have a friggin' slew of other words to use.
*Edit, you come on like rather a dick in this thread, Mr. Thread-Starter.

jon boy 07.04.2007 12:03 PM

i just got a lift home with someone who when we went over a hole in the road that nearly tore the suspension away from the car said 'oh crumbs'.

atsonicpark 07.04.2007 12:11 PM

i don't always curse, but i'm still going to say something offensive. if i say "i want to jizz on that women's glasses" does it really sound better than "FUCK dude i want to fucking cum on that bitch's glasses!" you know? what's the diffference? might as well just curse.

Cardinal Rob 07.04.2007 12:14 PM

I say holy moly and the like. I usually see words like fuck pretty nasty though there are certain tonations and usages to fuck and the like that can make them really koo' words.

SynthethicalY 07.04.2007 02:05 PM

Fucken yes, I swear so much, even in front of family, except when the little kiddies are around.

king_buzzo 07.04.2007 02:08 PM

i never swear infront of family, but yeah i always do it.

Пятхъдесят Шест 07.04.2007 02:13 PM

talking of respect for others, calling me names is not called for, either here or through the use of negative reputation you gave me for starting this thread.

I forgive you.

your fucking lame ass avatar gives me no alternative to think of. that shit is fucking pathetic, joke or not. get over it, they lost that fucking war 142 years ago. and people in America should be ashamed of themselves when black school children have to go to school everyday under that flag in Mississippi.

jon boy 07.11.2007 02:30 PM

if i hit my thumb with a hammer i shout 'cuntingfuck'!

floatingslowly 07.11.2007 02:38 PM

I usually go with "oh my fuck" or "oh my shit" unless I'm speaking to my mother and then it's "oh my fucking shit".

PS: this thread sucks ass. too easy troll.

Silent Dan Speaks 07.11.2007 03:09 PM

It depends on the company. I cuss fairly often around my friends, less frequently around my parents, and never around extended family.

If I know someone is really opposed to it, I try to keep it down, but usually without success.

Cantankerous 07.11.2007 06:22 PM

i have a bit of a sailor mouth and i usually don't censor myself even when around young children but then that's how everyone in my family behaves.

SynthethicalY 07.11.2007 06:24 PM

I usually cuss everytime I hit myself "Jesus Fucking Christ" or "Fuck Me Jesus." The last one could be during sex though.

I agree. Calling someone an "idiot" to their face with a serious face will hurt more than calling the same person a... "motherfucker"? Maybe the sliest way to offend someone is to call them a word that they don't even know the definition of with a "positive" expression on your face as if you're complimenting them.

With that said, curse words are overrated.

Prisstina 07.11.2007 07:44 PM

i don't swear around family or kids, but with friends god dammit you better believe i have a mouth like a sailor.

Danny Himself 07.11.2007 08:18 PM

If any sailors are reading this they must be disappointed with their awful reputation.

Cantankerous 07.12.2007 12:06 AM

they ARE just words. it's the context in which words are used that they become offensive, not the words themselves.

krastian 07.12.2007 12:47 AM
