Fender Unveils J. Mascis Signature Jazzmaster

http://www.electric-guitar-review.co...re-jazzmaster/

Well, all I can say is that it’s truly been a banner year for Fender when it comes to obscure, but very well-deserved, signature model guitars––and you certainly won’t hear me complaining.
Hot on the heels of their new Joe Strummer Telecaster comes word that yet another of my all-time favorite guitar players is being honored with a Fender Artist Series guitar––the incomparable J. Mascis of early indie pioneers Dinosaur Jr.
Is this beginning to look like a trend? Can we expect to see a Thurston Moore Jazzmaster or John Frusciante Stratocaster coming down the pipe any time soon? A boy can dream.
As you can probably tell from the photo, in spite of his considerable chops Mascis isn’t known for taking himself too seriously, and the Jazzmaster that bears his name appears to be no exception––the body is apparently made of inexpensive basswood (something you see in a lot of Squiers,) and is decked out in a Purple Sparkle Polyester finish.
Other features unique to the instrument include a pair of “Special Design” MIJ single-coil Jazzmaster pickups, satin-finish neck, 21 Jumbo-size frets, adjusto-matic bridge, and an anodized Gold pickguard.
The J. Mascis Jaszzmaster will also sport a maple “C”-shape neck (25.5“ scale-length,) rosewood fretboard, Rosewood w/7.25” radius, “Lead” circuit volume and tone controls, “Rhythm” circuit volume and tone controls, 3-way pickup switching, vintage-style floating tremolo and tremolo lock button, and Fender/Gotoh vintage-style tuners.
Expect a full announcement from Fender at this weekend’s 2007 Summer NAMM show.

Buzzo, will cream his pants.

CHOUT 07.25.2007 12:31 AM

I was surprised to see the Joe Strummer Tele.

pbradley 07.25.2007 12:41 AM

I'd rather they release the Take A Run At The Sun stratocaster.

Rob Instigator 07.25.2007 09:08 AM

YAY! J Mascis is GOD!

Lucky for us, buzzo's on vacation and won't be no our asses for awhile.

Lost it? You mean, hes passed the age and is too old for you now? :P
I would buy it, seems relatively fair priced, over what I could afford though.

CHOUT 08.16.2007 09:24 PM

There's not one buzzo comment in here...strange.

You know yr my sworn enemy right? arrgghh

I'd rather be fascist about J than about anything that really matters.

pbradley 08.16.2007 10:06 PM

Again, I want to the magic Stratocaster from Take A Run At The Sun.

I think it is kind of ugly and I'd prefer it had a trem.

Maybe they'll make a Thurston sig. I'm sure it would look cool.

they would probably make it one of those terrible fender custom shop "vintage" ones where they beat up a perfectly good guitar and charge you two-thousand dollars for it....

drrrtyboots 08.16.2007 10:51 PM

Yeah, those are awesome! Especially the Jaco Pastorious bass they made with the REALISTIC empty screw holes from when Jaco moved his bridge further up the body! Awesome!

Cantankerous 08.16.2007 10:53 PM

i don't understand why anyone would actually want the same guitar as someone else.

king_buzzo 08.17.2007 03:54 AM

i was kinda hoping for more. I mean, its an overpriced CIJ. But I'd love to get one with a tort pickguard.

In order to gut it, fuck it over, remold it, whatever and then tell people that is was originally a so-and-so guitar, I suppose.

I know that's what I would do.
