Animal Collective

full gig, twelve new songs

none of the songs are from strawberry jam. by the way,i'm really loving what i've heard off that. what do you think?

HaydenAsche 07.26.2007 03:20 PM

Strawberry Jam is absolutely fantastic.

schizophrenicroom 07.26.2007 03:32 PM

the motherfuckers are playing in atlanta in september but on a wednesday. i'm miffed.

Disgruntled Youth 07.26.2007 03:32 PM

Too bad I missed the like 2 months ago.

Savage Clone 07.26.2007 03:33 PM

"Strawberry Jam"
I hate that title so much.
Sounds like they should be wearing hemp jewelry and doing the snake-arm hippy chick dance.

drrrtyboots 07.26.2007 03:46 PM

The new new songs are pretty trippy, but strawberry is pretty ass kickin'.

nature scene 07.26.2007 04:23 PM

i posted a link to this concert before. http://www.sonicyouth.com/gossip/sho...ght=strawberry

it's pretty good. strawberry jam is pretty slammin'. I like every song. There's no "Bees" on this, and I think that's good. Reverend Green is sublime, but I'm partial to the old, fast version.

Savage Clone,

I'd say AC are pretty much hippies -- or they at least make hippie music - and I think the title fits. When I saw them a year or so ago, there were only two people in the crowd wearing tye-dye -- avey tare and me.

I might make it down to that atlanta show.

Inhuman 07.26.2007 04:29 PM

Thanks, I got my ticket to see them in ottawa on September 7th! I've seen Avey Tare live too

Disgruntled Youth 07.26.2007 04:35 PM

I managed to get one of the promo posters done by Cricket Press when they where in town.

Everyneurotic 07.26.2007 05:21 PM

strawberry jam owns, awesome album, terrible title, i agree.

on the contrary, feels is a fantastic title but the music blows.

*shocked*
feels is a masterpeice
the purple bottle is one of my all time favorite songs..

and thanks, im DLing this show right now:cool:

drrrtyboots 07.26.2007 05:31 PM

Yeah, completely disagree about the feels opinion but it is an opinion after all.

cosmokramer 07.26.2007 06:01 PM

I really like the way he screams on Peacebone.

atsonicpark 07.26.2007 08:18 PM

feels is by far their worst album.

strawberry jam is a step in the right direction.. it feels like the music is trapped in ether.. whereas before, they were playing in the woods, now they're playing in outer space...

strawberry jam also holds the distinction of being an album that i like every song better than the song before it... the album just gets better and better!...

though i much prever avey tare's last solo album (and to a lesser extent, panda bear's)... damn, that album was underrated as fuck. people got so caught up in "OH, IT'S BACKWARDS!" "YEAH? LISTEN TO THE FRONTWARDS VERSION THAT'S HOW YOU HEAR THE SONGS FOR REAL!" "BUT THAT'S NOT HE POINT THE ACTUAL SONGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE HEARD BACKWARDS" BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. just listen to the fucking album, stop generalizing and theorizing on it. it's genius. on that note, i also dig the new mum record.

animal collective, one of the only pitchfork-dick-sucking indie bands worth caring about.

Everyneurotic 07.26.2007 09:22 PM

i haven;t heard all of them, but my favorite albums by them are:

1. hollindagain
2. prospect hummer ep
3. strawberry jam
4. sung tongs
5. here comes the indian
5000011. feels

Alex's Trip 07.26.2007 09:27 PM

I'm seeing them on September the 18th!!!!

I am quite excited to the max.

krastian 11.28.2007 11:48 PM

I'm not really a big fan of these guys, but Strawberry Jam has to be their best album yet, right? I'm listening through it for the second time and I have to say it isn't really annoying like some of there earlier stuff which is pretty hit or miss to me.

I've always thought that their earlier stuff sounded like somebody got a group of retarded hippie/commune children from the early 70's together to record an album in less than a day.....not that that is neccessarily a bad thing.

atsonicpark 11.28.2007 11:56 PM

I don't really listen to it anymore, but it is a really good record that every magazine in the world will give "album of the year" honors to. Whoopty.

That is what they sound like..... and yes it is a bad thing.

Silent Dan Speaks 11.29.2007 02:40 AM

I love Feels and Strawberry Jam, but I have to be in the mood for Here Comes the Indian.

I haven't heard the rest, but I believe I'll get Sung Tongs soon.

One more thing, I love the way he screams and I wish I could do it.

sun city girl 11.29.2007 06:36 AM

strawberry jam, great title and the best album in 2007. sung tongs is even better though.

PAULYBEE2656 11.29.2007 07:52 AM

i dont get the anti feels. i love it. strawberry jam is excellent and sung tongs, the first half is great the rest forgettable.

Tickerwelly 11.29.2007 08:30 AM

I don't get the anti Feels thing either. Sung Tongs is not that great by any means. It was the album that got me into them and I don't even understand why now. Visiting Friends is shit compared to the long ambient pieces on Here Comes The Indian.

atsonicpark 11.29.2007 10:04 AM

feels isn't bad, it's just their worst, i think..

fictionfriction 11.29.2007 04:09 PM

strawberry jam is great, shame i missed them last month when they played here.

spirit they've gone, spirit they've vanished is still my favourite, i love that album. chocolate girl is amazing

cryptowonderdruginvogue 11.29.2007 04:51 PM

i'm a god over on the animal collective boards

davenotdead 11.29.2007 05:10 PM

lolz crypto....you certainly changed the dynamic over there

the ikara cult 11.29.2007 05:44 PM

A Frustrating and Brilliant band in equal measures, which is the mark of something special

fugazifan 11.29.2007 06:32 PM

strawberry jam has some really great moment (cukoo might be the culmination of everything that they have done up to this point.)
some so so (jack the ripper) and one crap(#1)
but i still really love it. feels is still my favorite though.
such a perfect album.
one of my favorite bands.
our newest song that wee wtrote a few days ago, has a really cool animal collectiveey scream part done by me...

atari 2600 11.29.2007 07:19 PM

That Coronet Theater show made the rounds as a torrent, as did some others.

(mp3 download still works)

(this other one doesn't work anymore, glad I downloaded these)

batreleaser 11.30.2007 10:38 AM

i kind of feel that animal collective are a special band.

highly experimental and weird, but still very accessible and listenable.

its many of these types of bands who stand the test of time, velvets, beach boys, my bloody valentine, sonic youth, etc...

atsonicpark 11.30.2007 04:34 PM

# 1 isn't a crap song. it's my favorite, actually...

i probably said this elsewhere, but i think every song on strawberry jam is better than the song before it.

thats interesting...i gotta agree that Derek is fantastic, especially as a closer...but there's something about Fireworks that makes it better than Derek...I think its because I knew AC could write a song like Derek, and then Fireworks is this thing of a different nature...almost like a ballad, and its just so singable...

maybe crap was an overstatment but something about it urkes me the rong way.
that keyboard riff just really annoys me.
derek is fantastic though

drrrtyboots 12.01.2007 09:30 AM

Strawberry Jam really grew on me over the months more and more and if anything, I think I like Cuckoo Cuckoo the least just because of how much better the live version sounds to me.

atari 2600 12.03.2007 07:14 PM

They are on the Conan replay tonight.

I listened to Haverford '05 again last night while watching football with muted sound and it's a really good audience recording.

Charlottesville '07 isn't too shabby.

That's practically what they do anyway.

Everyneurotic 02.15.2008 12:20 PM

some dude last week told me animal collective were music to set the mood for sex.

a strange dude.

PAULYBEE2656 02.15.2008 12:26 PM

maybe pixie sex or dwarf noncing!
