I'm seeing Keiji Haino tonight!

Wow, finally somebody interesting has come to play in this shithole . Mr. black-clad, bring it on!

I just hope that sarramkrop's quote that I put into my signature, will be true in this case.

sonicl 10.15.2007 02:57 AM

Have a great time. I hope he lives up to your expectations.

A Thousand Threads 10.15.2007 03:17 AM

Do you have the other europe tour dates?

Whoo, tomorrow?
Thanks for the info.

Toilet & Bowels 10.15.2007 07:01 PM

you better enjoy it!

_slavo_ 10.16.2007 02:43 AM

It was

LOUD

My treble frequencies are dead today. Chatter of my colleagues sounds to me as they were in a different room behind a wall (which is a good thing, after all).

I loved Keiji. He looked like a skeleton with his limp figure and long grey hair and in his performance he went absolutely nuts. From 3 airFX pedals modulation through full-on noise guitar freakout to the final soothing coda, it was an evening to remember.

I love gigs with white lights.
Glad you had a good time _slavo_ , nice pics too, did you take them?

_slavo_ 10.16.2007 07:04 AM

Nope, a friend did. I only have a mobile phone camera :)

Haha, by the way, the guy in the red t-shirt on the support act photo destroyed his whole equipment at the end of their set - he jumped on the table and kicked the stuff down. :D

PUNK!

Haino plays loud?
Who knew?

Thanks for the pics!

according to his hompage he is.
I couldn't find any information about where and when or any other of these nonrelevant things.
For me it's too late for a 2 hour journey today, anyways.

o o o 11.15.2007 04:31 AM

It looks as if I'll be seeing him tonight! (also for the first time)

I just saw some posters announcing that he's playing here in Berlin tonight, together with Pan Sonic (apparently they're currently recording an album together).

I don't exactly know what to expect from this collaboration... We'll see...

sonicl 11.15.2007 04:36 AM

Oh, you lucky bastard!

I couldn't go to Pan Sonic when they played in London the other week, but I'd love to see them again.

o o o 11.15.2007 05:56 AM

I'm especially lucky to have noticed those posters in the street this morning… otherwise I would not have known about it.

I really don't know Pan Sonic that well… I only have a frozen image in my mind about their music, from when I tried to listen to them quite a few years ago (and back then, I eventually did not really get into them, probably simply because I was looking for other types of music at that time). I have not listened to them since (I had actually sort of forgotten about them), but I reckon I am more likely to get into them today. Any recommendations of albums to check out?

sonicl 11.15.2007 06:15 AM

I can't help, I'm afraid. I've seen them live twice - once about ten years ago, and I hated them, then again about four years ago and I loved them - but I've never heard any of the recorded stuff. I keep meaning to try out some CDs, but have never got around to it.

Try Kesto. It's great.

sarramkrop 11.15.2007 06:42 AM

Vakio is also a great album from them from the time when they were still called Panasonic. I've read on a site about this collaboration and the Berlin gig. It should be interesting. I do have to say, though, that Pan Sonic's occasional sound installations are very poor.

Yes - Their piece at the Sonic Boom exhibition at the Hayward Gallery all those years ago left me scratching my head and thinking "why?".

sarramkrop 11.15.2007 07:24 AM

That piece looked like an electric fire emanating static electricity. Not very good at all. On the other hand, the Lee Ranaldo video acoustic guitar, the Marclay piece and the amazing Philip Jeck scaffolding dansette record player tower were all superb.

sonicl 11.15.2007 08:20 AM

Who was it that had the room of gongs? Russell Mills, perhaps? That was good too.

pokkeherrie 01.29.2008 11:31 AM

bump.

Anyone going tonight? Melvins show was pretty great yesterday.

Rotterdam film festival - Live film performances:

January 28th: live Melvins film performance of BB/Spook House/Kranky Klaus
January 29th: live Keiji Haino film performance of JO
January 30th: live film performance with Keiji Haino and the Melvins playing together with all four films simultaneously projected and mixed at once.

I still have a ticket to get rid of for tonight, so anyone interested PM me your mobile number...although to be honest I don't think it's going to be sold out by any means.

afterthefact 01.29.2008 12:14 PM

God, I wish he'd come around this way, but I don't see it happening... I did get the pleasure of introducing Haino to somebody the other day, I love when I can do that...

o o o 02.01.2008 11:02 PM

thanks for the recommendations for Pan Sonic! i haven't acted on it, but i still hope to do it in the next few days, weeks... or months... we'll see...

anyway, the keiji haino + pan sonic concert was excellent... it was strange to see Keiji Haino against heavy beats at times, sometimes it felt like they were fighting against each other, sometimes it meld perfectly together... but in any case, it was lovely. KH played all sorts of instruments, and all of it was wonderful. especially when he was playing on that small stringed instrument.

sonicl 02.02.2008 02:43 AM

^Sounds good! I'm pretty jealous of you seeing that.

that's the same what i thought of his gig with the melvins in rotterdam last week. wouldn't surprise me at all if it ends up being the best show i'll see in 2008.
