What's your favourite Roxy Music album ?
Mine is Stranded.
What's yours ? |
For Your Pleasure is the apex of their career, IMO. The clash between Ferry and Eno's egos on that album is brilliant.

pleasure

Well, seein' as how's I only have two, and they're both real good, I can only say that I like Country Life and Stranded about equally. I really need to get those first two albums at least, plus Siren.
Country Life probably gets the nod because of the awesome cover. |
Avalon

i dont like roxy music i think their covers are degrading to women......
and byron ferrari isnt a great singer either.......( if u get that you show your ahge!) |
I likey the first one.
|
i mean look at the size of yer ones lips on the right....
![]() pole dancers / spear chuckers.... ![]() advocating the practice of throwing women off cliffs, it was a popular sport in olden days... ![]() and this is just plan wrong!!!!!! ![]() sorry byron but yknow, im a decent man............ |
while i find the earlier albums very interesting, nothing beats "more than this" for me, so avalon ftw.
|
I do hear much praise for Avalon.

I think they portray womens rather nicely. |
The first one and For Your Pleasure are pretty much the only ones I like, and that is fairly recent. I definitely enjoy those two albums, though. Bryan Ferry's vocal style bugs me a lot of the time. Cannot stand Avalon at all.
I have always preferred Japan, even though they were obviously taking a lot of cues from Ferry and Co. |

Exactly. I agree 100%. |

Me too. They certainly "objectify" women, but in the tradition of fine art going back thousands of years, with a modern twist that is actually somewhat satirical of that objectification at the same time. After all, the covers show the women as beautiful in an expressionist manner that's almost surreal plastic, and meanwhile the singer sings about making love to a blow-up doll. Glam often toyed around with these types of images and ideas at the time, but Roxy was much more aware of it and using it as a statement about fashion and "culture". I don't actually know any women who find those covers sexist, and I lived in the Riot Grrl homeland for ten years. |
i can't stand bryan ferry but should give them a chance...everything i heard from them has been überboring, though.
|
jerry hall is on the cover of siren cause she was bryan ferry's girlfriend
ew for your pleasure is awesome but i also love the s/t their album covers were awesome though, especially for your pleasure but country life too. i like that the girls have bush. |
I can't see how the Roxy Music of the early 70s is boring, that's a weird point of view to me.

What ? |
i forgot that virginia plain is on the 1st album. i might change my mind.

For Your Pleasure.
|
Although there's brilliance to be found on all of their albums, I'd probably go for For Your Pleasure too. Like the Velvets, Roxy are one of those very few bands I'm convinced I'll still be listening to when i'm 60.
|
I wish I could find those damned first two albums!
The whole reissue business never makes sense. They've reissued the shit out of the whole VU catalog on LP in multiple forms--colored vinyl, 180 gram, special editions, regular editions. Why can't they spread some of the wealth and get other things, like Roxy Music, into the bins again? |
I might be wrong, but weren't their albums all reissued at the time of their risible reunion?
I seem to remember seeing some of their vinyl in some record shops around that time. |
I got stoned and I missed it.
